Second round of stimulus; gamesmanship

:sigh:

Is anybody on the right going to call out this aggressive over-reach by Trump with these executive orders? I can remember when Obama was in office, we used to be in agreement that EOs were being abused. This right here is a glaring abuse of power. Do you want Biden, Kamala or Susan Rice to have this kind of leverage? If Trump can with the stroke of a pen remove payroll taxes, why couldn't a future president institute taxes in the same manner. It is Congress that should be in charge of levying taxes I thought, not the Executive branch?

If democrats don't challenge them in court, some GOP like Rand Paul or someone should.
Personally I'm glad he issued those executive orders because Nancy and Shumer were never going to bargain in good faith. They were going to hold up the stimulus up until the blue states got their pensions bailed out no matter what and it backfired on her. Like I said in another thread, Nancy just went on Fox news and I can't ever remember her doing that before, she got outplayed.

Meh... pretty shortsighted position to take. Gain a political win today, and jeopardize something far greater tomorrow.

Don’t like EO’s. Never will, I disagree with Trump on this one. However, IF his end game is an attempt to genuinely help people then I can kinda understand. Politics sucks. Period

What are we giving up? BHO wrote executive orders like they were going out of style. If congress can't do their job you might as well let the president do it for them. At least presidents get exchanged every 4 or 8 years unlike congress that stinks up washington for decades until they die.

It’s funny to hear the resident dims b**ch and moan about Trump’s executive orders and all the reckless spending without acknowledging its far less than what would have been had the clown dims gotten their way.

It's an unconstitutional play at best. Trump has no legal authority to do either. Even his own party knows this:

We need to find a way to get that ban back in place. People shouldn't have to worry about the ability to put a roof over their heads right now.

I get that, BUT...

The net effect is that ALL renters will just say "I can't pay rent because of the virus". Owner recourse = nothing.

Owners eat the sh*t sammich. Is that "fair"?

We're becoming a Welfare State.

So take him to court over it. That will be real popular with all of your rioters and looters, but maybe not so much for people that work for a living and are laid off.
It will be taken to court and slapped down like most of Trump's illegal stupidity. That is, of course, if the GOP or Congress doesn't force him to cancel those orders.

Only because the democrats want us to be one. Look at the blue states, they are keeping things shut down. The red states are going back to work. You don't need welfare when you have a job.

Only 1 item was an EO.

Dems remain in the driver's seat, and didn't bend because polls show most people (65% ish) think Trump has mishandled the virus.

Pure politics but the sh*ts gonna hit the fan now. People will be hurting bad soon.

All I tell you and your ilk is, you better vote your conscience.

I 100% agree with you, we're heading straight down a dangerous road.
But with restrictions where they are I just dont think its right for people to lose their homes when they lost their income to no fault of their own.
What I expect to happen is, when the restrictions are lifted the bank calls the owner, owner calls renter expecting to get 3-4 months of rent at once, renter doesn't have it and gets evicted. Then what the renter has nowhere to live, the owner isn't generating income and has nothing to give the bank. The bank reposses the house and everybody but the bank loses.

It isn't and he does have the authority to do it. Don't like it, file a lawsuit and stop it. Explain that to all of the people you care about.

I am basing my argument on the Constitution, not whatever BS you heard on Fox in the last 24 hours.

I did. Agree it’s awful. I despise these exec orders. Gridlock is the greatest gift to the people.

It is not. It didn’t help anyone because no one will get any money.
