Selection Committee

So why is Michigan still in the CFP and ranked at number 1? In their championship game against the now 17th ranked team their offense only put up 213 total yards and they played with their top QB. FSU put up 219 yards against the now ranked 15th team with the backup of the backup.

If you are comparing, FSU did better in their championship game than Michigan. The selection committee just needs to admit it - they selected Bama and Michigan because they needed an SEC and B1G team in the field of four and this has nothing to do with the four best. It is really the best of the SEC and the best of the B1G - then we'll let others into the mix unless we can select another SEC or B1G team without causing much complaining.

That's 1000% the debate. FSU is not a top 4 team right now. That's all that matters.

Edit: I believe I clarified and said worse than, not equal. TCU at least had their QB.
Agreed…the only criterion should be are they among the four teams most likely to win the championship.

All four teams in the CFP have wins against a top 10 opponent and one could picture them possibly winning a championship. FSU does not - their biggest win is an opening game win against LSU when FSU had a Heisman candidate at QB.

I just want to say that it's been an absolute pleasure watching the meltdown on Facebook from all my Georgia friends. My wife has been mad at me since last night. I may not get lucky for a while, but I also won't have to hear "3peat" anymore either, so it's almost worth it🤣🤣
With all the whining from FSU, I had forgotten to enjoy the Dawg misery…thanks for the reminder!

Anyone that had the stomach to watch the ACC championship game all the way through, understands that FSU has no business in the final four. Ugliest game in the history of championship games. I understand that it was FSU’s third string quarterback; I also know that Louisville was beaten by the fifth place team in the SEC East- Kensucky. I hate Bama, but FSU has no business in the Bowl Championship series.
How so? FSUs defense is legit. They stopped a good Louisville team. The Michigan/Iowa game was worse. Michigan gets boat raced every year.

Did they lose to a top 10 team? They played, and won their schedule. They beat a good Louisville team, with a true freshman QB making his first start.

Could UGA win the championship since we are taking that approach?

The response they had their shot and lost to Bama doesn’t fly here, because you are talking the best and COULD win the championship. UGA definitely COULD. OSU could as well.

If there’s any statement from the committee regarding the exclusion of FSU, it will be something about their QB situation, e.g. “Despite the valiant effort to win their last two games with their backup quarterbacks, FSU is a substantially different team without their starter, Jordan Travis. In light of this, the committee chose the four teams best prepared to play for the championship.”

I wonder if committee members are petitioning for funding support to provide personal protection.

Interesting they don’t think UGA and OSU are best prepared to win the championship.

They lost their conference championship game, sure, but they aren’t talking about on field results, they are talking about subjectivity on who is the best.

At the end of the day they used deserving for the other teams and who they think is best for Bama over LSU. Inconsistent logic to get one team in is the very definition of bias.

FSU has 3 wins against Top 25, and 8 total wins against bowl eligible teams. And won final 3 games with #2 & #3 Qb's. I'd say they are a strong and highly capable team.

It's a scam! 3 teams are undefeated, but BAMA with 1 loss is in, while a Power 5 (FSU) undefeated team is stiffed!

This all goes away next year with the increase to 12 teams. The committee can explain this away with one sentence: "We wish we'd gone to a 12 team playoff sooner."

The argument would be should LSU get in? Should we throw Liberty a bone? Is Iowa that bad on offense? What about SMU?

That's not nearly such a volatile argument.

FSU got screwed and the committee can say, "this is why we're going to an expanded playoff" when the real reason for the expansion is media revenue.

The selection committee has been a farce from day 1, and that's still the case today.

Florida State didn’t lose a game. texas did. texas only played 4 teams with top 40 talent. You know - like 90% of the SEC. Committee is a joke.
This is all about Bama. Committee wanted Bama in, and they couldn't justify leaving out the only team who beat Bama, who is also 12-1 and a conference champion.
So FSU gets the shaft, rightly or wrongly.

That’s my main complaint. Inconsistency from year to year. Let’s just change the rules to justify the four teams we want. No big deal.

This is my issue too. In years past, it was always the conference champions who made it undefeated who were obvious picks. Now all of a sudden we are interjecting subjectivity and projecting personal opinion. I don't care if you think FSU would get smashed by the other CFP teams. Just like TCU, they earned the right to show up and play. Yeah, they might lose...but they earned that right imo.

I have never been one to lean into the SEC bias angle, but this year it was in full effect. Alabama absolutely didn't deserve it. You can't reward a team that lost, and punish the other team because they didn't win impressively enough. A win is a win, even if they were ugly. If anyone deserved to get punished for winning ugly, it was Washington.
