Seth Davis strikes again. He's got us missing the dance even if we beat Memphis.

This year, if we beat Memphis, we don't have to have stellar conference wins. UGA, South Carolina, Auburn, and Mississippi State are almost for-sure wins. Then, we should be able to beat Vandy, LSU, and probably Alabama at home. We can go 11-7 without any stellar conference wins. But, if we do that, along with wins against WSU, Xavier, and Memphis, then we are probably in.

Last year, we dug a deep hole out of conference that we had to beat Florida, Vandy, etc. just to have a chance. This year, we don't.

I know this team can struggle on any given night, but the SEC is really weak at the bottom and in the middle. We should be able to take advantage.

This is why I don't like Seth Davis. I can't remember him ever giving us due credit. Remember our Elite Eight team? He didn't have us winning a game in that tournament; we were his first upset pick. Literally immediately after the bracket was released he was already spouting off about how San Diego State would beat us.

But that is neither here nor there. Seth could be right for all I know. Maybe we actually suck and we'll crash and burn in conference play. But to say we'll be 9-3 with 3 good out of conference wins heading into conference play and STILL fail to make the tournament is absurd. He clearly thinks nothing of us.

It's just one guy, and I don't care too much what any analyst says, but this sort of thing irks me a little. If he'd studied our team, he'd see that we've been playing better, improving. And the SEC is weeeeeeeeaaaaaaak. He doesn't think we can get 10-11 SEC wins?
You always have to remember who his dad is when thinking about him. His dad is Lanny Davis - yes, the same Lanny Davis from the Clinton Administration. Lanny was born in Murfreesboro, TN.

Don't look now, but Auburn is starting to actually resemble a basketball team. They played Illinois to the wire on the road and beat FSU at home the other night. For some reason, UT has had trouble winning down there. They won the last time, but we've been upset a few times.

And the Wichita St win still looks good. They're 13-1 and look like a legit team. That win may keep on giving.

I don't think its about giving "love" or not, its about fact and fiction. Right now, he is dead on and its all fact unfortunately until our guys prove him wrong-- which they can do, but right now they can't get any sort of shooting groove going. Until they do, they are going to lose, plain and simple. I love them, but facts are facts.

I'm hardly giving up on this season...but how can you not get excited at the thought of Maymon returning, the core of this grou returning, and Hubbs coming in?

I am very excited about Hubbs. Still sucks about Nichols but oh well. I am just hoping Hubbs turns our better than our last 5* SG. Can you say bust?

There are no guarantees on next season.
This was to be the season of a 9-3 in football and we lost our dc.
This season we were going to have one of the best front courts in the country in bb. You see how that's turned out.
I'd settle for a little indication that this team is going to get it together. so far, just about every game has revealed another chink in the armor.
Believing in the future is great if you practice religion.
In sports, if you ain't got it now, it probably ain't comin.
Beat Memphis and I'll start believing again. In this season.

A RS sounds like good news too me. I would rather have Maymon for a full season + Hubbs + another offseason with the rest of our players...rather than Maymon for a month and half.

Absolutely. Anyone who disagrees with this is well...do i even need to say it?

Hopson was a mental midget..I'm glad he's gone.

I don't disagree. He was coddled. We'd be foolish not to welcome his offense to this team. If anyone could get Scotty's maximum potential out, it's Martin IMO. I have a feeling his butt would be chock full of splinters.

Oh the irony. We are talking about facts and projections on making the Tourney. The "facts" are we are 8-3, top 40 RPI, and probably in the field as of now.

He's the tyler bray of our basketball team. Led our team in scoring and people hate him because he didn't live up to their unreal expectations. only difference is Bray was (legit) underrated. and Hopson was a bit overrated

All that needs to be said about this comment by Davis is the line about Martin using Golden to slow down tempo and grind out wins. It shows exactly how few of UT's games Davis has actually watched because this is exactly the opposite of what Martin has been preaching since the Virginia game. I would bet Seth Davis caught the Georgetown game and the UVA game and hasn't seen UT play since. Otherwise he would know that Martin has been trying to speed things up, not slow them down.

Yeah I would agree...only close observers would know this....We DID turn up the transition and it helped...now Trae is hurt a bit and I think it will effect his game...Not crazy bout Lopez just yet (man he has a ton to learn) but he too can and will push the ball especially in transition off the defensive rebound....

I missed Trae being hurt. What's his injury?

Much like we've lost so far this season, right? To the tune of an 8-3 record! Awful!

I see where you're coming from, I do. And I also have no confidence that we'll beat Mizzou, UF, or UK. UK especially is improving and will be a scary team; I'm not sure we come close to beating them. We don't seem to have the players to do it.

The point I'm making here is that we won't need to beat them. We beat Memphis, and we should be able to get to 20 wins overall without struggling too much. We are already good at home, so we'll win most of those. We just need to steal a few on the road. Remember there are some seriously bad teams in this conference.

THIS THIS THIS. THANK YOU.

My point exactly. People are still shouting about our impending doom and how if we don't find offense we can't win. All I'm saying is that hasn't been the case so far. And we've played some good teams, too.

Once it stops working, then I'll concede to everyone. But that hasn't happened yet.

He hurt his left shoulder in practice last week before the Xavier game. He had a heavy wrap on it for the game and during practice. Hopefully, he's better.

Thanks. I saw the wrap in the Xavier game but didn't know the reason for it.

Im guessing there was some physical practices over break. I haven't seem confirmation on Edwards, but he played 0 minutes against Xavier and was wearing a splint on his right hand iirc. Golden had/has a bruised shoulder and was wearing that brace, and as of yesterdays practice still was.
