Severe Weather Thread

Got jolted out of bed at 6:15 this morning by a friend of mine calling because there was a tornado headed in my general direction. I went downstairs to check things out and suddenly I heard the signature roar, stuff started hitting the house like bullets and we had to take cover. Went outside at first light and it was very obvious that we were right in the debris path. All things considered, my house did ok compared to my neighbors, but it's been a rough day.

Wow. Glad to hear you're safe and sound. Any indication as to how large it was?

No idea yet, but I'd guess it was a small one. Mainly tree damage and debris. The wind speed I've heard reported was 85-90 mph which would make it low level. They haven't actually "officially" designated it a tornado yet, but it's very obvious that it was. The damage was way too confined to a well defined path.

The storms rolled through here at around 3pm this afternoon in fayetteville, NC. Had to use a ratchet strap to pull the very large limb that snapped off the red oak in my front yard out of the road. Missed landing on my truck by a foot. Power was out for 3 hours, no cell phone signal and still no cable.....good times.

Glad to hear you and yours are doing okay.

Some of the damage from the tornado that rolled through here.

Glad you're ok, GA.

Confirmed this morning that it was an F1 with winds of 103 that was about 400 yards wide. Looks like the center of it crossed the street roughly 2 houses down from me. Just crazy.

Be praying for you and your fam GA.
I appreciate it, but it looks like I'm one of the luckier ones damage-wise. My biggest problem is that running a chainsaw all day yesterday and being a fat bastard do not mix well. I can barely move this morning.

So sorry for everyone that was in the middle of the storms. I feel for you, and I'm glad everybody is okay!

Take care GA!

I ran a chainsaw for three days back in 2003. Had two trees, one a huge oak, almost fall on the new house we were building. An F4 missed it by a 1/4 mile.
At the house I was living in at the time, I had numerous trees down. The tornado missed it by less than an 1/8 of a mile. When it came through our area, they estimated it was a mile wide

any damage to Bragg itself? I heard Sanford got hit pretty hard. Any fatal/serious injuries reported? Hate to see that man. When are you headed to Fl?

I havn't seen the damage with my own eyes, but that pic was taken on yadkin rd. One of the gas stations just outside of the yadkin rd gate is completley gone. Parts of skibo were shut down and alot of folks on Bragg are still without power.

I'm getting out later today to survey the damage for myself.

one of my NCOs lives near the Yadkin gate and has a hole in his living room. He's in other part of Afghanistan, but his wife was there. Fortunately, she wasn't hurt. Just sucks for him and all the others. I've heard power might be off for a long, long time.

maybe the storm destroyed the Mata-Mile?

I don't mind running, it's my favorite form of PT and I would run even if I wasn't in the Army, but I despise the Mata-Mile. I never ever want to run that course again. But it's our backyard, so I'm always having to run it.

Yeah, there's alot of damage. The tornado was on the ground for a long time. At one point there was 5-6 tornado's on the ground in a line stretching from the nc/va border to sc/nc border.

Ten fatalities in nc alone yesterday. The damage is so wide spread that it'll take a week or so to estimate in dollars. The Sanford area was hit hard and the tornado was caught on tape as it ripped through the downtown area. The lowe's in Sanford was totally destroyed.

It'll be awhile before anybodys running that trail. Unless you enjoy climbing over blown over trees every 50 meters. I'll give an update later when I get back from checking it out.

Under a winter weather advisory for early morning Monday through early afternoon. Three to five inches of snow. I laughed.
