Sherman outed at A&M..Give Dooley the same time?

Texas A&M is paying Sherman a 5.8 Million dollar buyout. Sometimes winning is just more important than money.

He had 2 losing seasons, went 9-4, and was fired this year at 6-6. I would bet 1/2 the fan base wanted him fired after the 2 losing seasons.

Would they have been better off firing him after 2 years? I would say yes. 1 winning season VS 3 .500 or under seasons equals a bad hire. Sometimes it is just better to cut your loses.

Just like Shula: two bad years, then the schedule gets easier with and he wins a couple more, but you cant delay the inevitable.

Sherman went 9-4 last year. If Dooley does the same he will be afforded the same opportunity.

Sherman is also a highly renowned offensive coordinator. He will be in demand.

Yeah--I'd love to have him come to Knoxville and replace Chaney! :salute:

It probaly has to do more with them coming into the sec next yr and didn't want a coach that isn't preforming from the get go. Probaly would have kept him if still in the big 12.

If winning is the important thing they better go big in the next hire. If they go after Sumlin then it has nothing to do with it cause he is unproven and the defenses in the sec west will embarrass ATM from day one. The aTm gig is going to be a huge feat for whomever takes it.

I probably would've given Sherman another year at A&M.

He hasn't had phenomenal success, but you can't ignore how he turned the program around talent-wise. That program was really in the dumps 4 years ago.

If I were them, then I would go after the man who actually built that Houston program: Briles.

Texas A&M would get the satisfaction of having a head coach who knows how to build programs in Texas. They would also get payback on Baylor. Ken Starr would have a heart attack.

He should as long as he wins 8 games next year...I thought he could be safe with 7 before the KY game...not so sure anymore.

Why?

8 wins means losing to UF, UGA, USCe and Bama again.

Is that any kind of improvement?

Tennessee went from last to 4th in the SEC East! Hooray!

Wonder who TAMU gets to lead them into the SEC? Oh ****, I hope they don't come after Wilcox!

I live in Oklahoma and all the radio stations are reporting Sumlin is their top Target. He coached there as an assistant.

I am not sure why people are stuck in this frame of mind that Sumlin is "unproven". If you mean in the SEC, I would agree but that is ALOT of coaches. The man has won twice as many games as he has lost as a head coach and has an undefeated team this year. As far as head coaching, that is pretty well "proven". I agree that A&M may struggle in the SEC to start but they are not far off. A&M lost to Okie State, KState, Texas and Arkansas by a combined 13 points and to Oklahoma by 16. I would think they would do a decent job in the SEC. Just look at their recruiting class, it is as good or better than ours and most VOL fans feel ours is great. Also people always talk about how "they don''t play defense in the CUSA" if Sumlin took the job. True, but he would not be playing in the SEC with his Houston teams defense either.

Imagine Bray, Hunter and Da'Rick in that offense

As long as he isn't involved in game planning or second half adjustments.

I don't know how I feel this morning. I felt like we needed a change...now that it's happened, I'm sad for Coach Sherman. The man leaves the program in much better shape than what he inherited four years ago. Further, I'm grateful for the manner in which he represented A&M. I'd much rather see a man like Coach Sherman on the sidelines than people like Petrino at Nebraska or Muschamp. I just hope we make the right hire. Sumlin gets A&M...and to resurrect that armpit of a school (UH) tells me he can do a lot with a little.
