Should CBP hire Buzz Peterson as his talent evaluator/recruiter?

It is ironic how all of that fell into place. Buzz didn't go get Lofton as much as Lofton wanted to go to Kentucky first, then Louisville, then Cincinatti. In fact, if I remember correctly, Lofton waited for Cincinatti to turn him down before committing to UT. Jujuan Smith was a walk-on player and Buzz let Lee Humphrey go to UF when he wanted to come to UT.

With that being said, Pearl needs to recruit more basketball players. So far, it seems that Pearl is the best coach in America at taking guys that aren't as good as the other team and getting them to win. When we have mega talent all across the roster, we seem to struggle. Looking back we should have recruited Terrance Ogelsby and John Jenkins. Tony Jones said that they didn't go after Jenkins all that hard to begin with which is amazing to me. Guys that can shoot the three make Pearl's system flourish and yet they have failed to go after those types of guys.

Do you really think I seriously believe Buzz Peterson would be hired by CBP as a talent evaluator/recruiter? I was merely trying to make my point without having to type a long explanation.

Calm down... I was trying to make my point that it was winning was unexpected in those days without having to type a long explanation....:clapping:

Boy you sure got me good on that one.

Please someone tell me we're better off with Pearl coaching Pearl's players than we were with Pearl coaching Buzz's players.

His coaching has been iffy from day one...his lack of control paid dividends when Lofton and Smith were hitting those 30 foot shots...our team still has the same mentality, only they couldn't hit water if they fell out of a boat, yet Pearl just lets them shoot themselves out of a game.

I just don't think Chris or Jujuan accomplish what they did under Buzz. Bruce is known for organized chaos and this worked perfectly for the previous players. It "paid dividends" for both them and coach.....

Bruce lets them fire away, hoping he finds the next Jujuan or Chris. He doesn't have a problem recruiting or coaching talent. He is having a problem recruiting talent to his coaching style.

There are only so many Chris' and Jujuans' in the world. His coaching didn't seem so "iffy" to everyone, when we ranked #1 for the 1st time ever.....

Yeah, we were #1 too. And we beat two #1 teams! Who cares if we haven't won a SEC title or made it past the Sweet 16? We are better than we were before CBP.

We did win an SEC title, year before last... What are you even talking about? are you here in reality with the rest of us?

We won the east in 2006, 2008, and 2009 and missed winning the SEC Tourney by 3pts in the final seconds against Mississippi State. But look back over the years before BP and tell me how close we got. Plus, the SEC is getting a lot stronger than it use to be, we arent playing a bunch of cupcake teams like before.

but we still win more than we lose and have won the East three out of the last 5 years. 18-5 is not a bad place to be considering we beat the #1 team in the nation. Our players are good, but they have had a difficult year with all the changes in the line-up. Give them a break, we will be fine by the NCAA tourney.

Yes because Pearl's teams have shown that they always play their best ball come March.

The only point I'm trying to make is that Pearl's coaching with Buzz's players looks better than Pearl's coaching of his own players, and that perplexes me.

I don't know what point you're trying to make.

hey the sweet 16 two years in a row, aint bad. that's more than we've ever done before CBP... argue that pal'o.... We had nvr even made it to the sweet 16 before him but somehow that's not even good enough for you Vol fans who are nvr pleased with any success unless you win it all. get a grip on reality and realize we are climbing and we are making are way to having a NC competing program.

Wrong. I'm guessing you started watching UT basketball 4 years ago.

And the second time Pearl took us to a Sweet 16, it came after arguably our best regular season ever and yet we played horribly in both NCAAT wins and then was run out of the gym by Louisville. The point being that you missed was that come March, we DIDN'T have our problems figured out. I believe last year proved the same thing.

I think Pearl has done a good job, but has leveled off. Is it so bad that I want to see us go to to the next level? If CBP doesn't change a few things in his coaching, I'm afraid we have seen the best he has to offer. Also, I am just tired of poster who act like there was no basketball program before Pearl. We are all aware of being #1(albeit briefly,) beating two #1 teams, and making it to the Sweet 16. I just want to see improvement from the team I love, and the guy coaching them.

The point the poster is trying to make is CBP first two teams are better than his last few. The first two were comprised of Buzz's boys.

I would have to say i agree with this, but feel free to argue.

When will people understand college athletics isn't necessarily a steady movement upward? Why do we have have people constantly wringing their hands when we don't win every game or struggle for a stretch?

North Carolina is 13-9 this year. Teams fluctuate based upon a lot of factors, including experience, roster changes, chemistry, etc. We are still 18-5!!!

Consider, for example, that, by year five Calipari had yet to make the NCAA Tournament in Memphis.

People need to chill and stop being so reactionary. If you all want players like Boomer Herndon and hope we luck into another Chris Lofton, please bring back Buzz. However, we are recruiting at a much higher level under Pear than any time else in our history (only O'Neill could match) and we will have great seasons and good seasons. Right now, we are having a good season, but the expectations are ridiculous with this whole "next level" stuff. Getting to that next level is a long process, which has been proven again and again.

So, relax, we are still on our way.

As long as we don't continue to have to play teams as physical as those beasts we played on Tuesday.

Yeah, to another JUCO game to find the next superstar!

Well, two points here.

One, Pearl made a living recruiting the "hungry" JUCO at his previous stops and was very successful doing so.

Two, have you taken a gander at our upcoming recruiting classes?

Still playing that broken record of BS? What's the matter still don't have anything else to add except trying to be hat-lite and telling everybody how stupid they are?

I don't know what's worse, insulting people and thinking you are actually making a point or copying someone's persona while doing so. Either way, it's pretty pathetic.
