If the evidence and testimony gathered by the House and sent to the Senate is sufficient for a conviction, why are witnesses needed?
One would think.Well, to quote Trump himself, it's all a witch hunt and bogus. So, per the Defendant, there is not only not sufficient evidence, there's no evidence. In any trial, the jury deserves to hear the whole story, does it not? Both sides should be allowed to put on (most any) witness they feel strengthens their case.

You mean the House isn’t giving the Senate the “whole story”?
That's a fair assessment.
But, of course, what evidence is there to offer that Trump is innocent? I mean, Trump could have Tweeted out proof of his innocence at any time. Trump could have permitted the release of all the requested documents. Trump could allow his cabinet members to testify at any time.
But he hasn't.
Not the actions of an innocent man.
There is no need for him to do anything as long as the senate refuses to hold him accountable. There is no need for him to prove his innocence. It's up to the House to prove his guilt.

There will continue to be increasing evidence that solidifies his guilt in the eyes of the majority and makes the continued turning of a blind eye by the rest that much more obvious and costly.
That's a fair assessment.
