4th and 16. Last offensive play for the Vols.

I can't help but think of what would've happened it Fulmer gave Wilhoit the nod. Sure it was a long shot- but the kid is a known Gator Slayer for his past preformance.

Should they have gone for the field goal?:dunno:

too long....and there was time left, assuming we get a 3 and out...you punt in that situation...and truth be told, i would have punted when we kicked the 51 yarder....sheesh...what do i know?

good lord y didn't u just ask him to kick it from Tn's own 1 yard line. he has a heck of a leg, but man i think there might be one or two ppl ever who could hit that.

That's a bit of a stretch but he was kicking everything into the endzone and through during warm ups and the 51 yarder he didn't hit it too well.

I think Wilhoit is a good kicker, but you cannot ask him to nail one from 63 with the game on the line.

He hit the 51 yarder just fine, and it had distance for at most a 53-yarder. No way he comes close to 62.

Just wondering? How far do you think to beat Florida last time would have been good from? Made it by a bit.

Yeah it was 50 yards.

I am sure it would at least have been good from 55...

One of the best kicks I have seen was Nugent of Ohio State to Beat Marshall in 2004. It was officially a 55 yarder, but it may have been good from 70, no joke.

Edit: Ok maybe that was a stretch, but I am sure 65, and 70 I wouldn't be too surprised.

We were at the 40 with like 3 something remaining and UF with one timeout. I know our running game was awful, but I would like to have seen three straight running plays, maybe a draw or three Qb sneaks to get it to the 35 and let Wilhoit wing from 52.

Is there a such thing as a successful 51 yard FG that wasn't hit well?

In hindsight yes!:) In reality a kick that long would have a trajectory so low that a hobbit NG would slap it down, but hey its a thought.

He said in the Beacon today that he feels like, if the team REALLY needed it, he could have hit from 57 or 58. Unfortunately, the grounding/sack took that possible opportunity away.

I think Wilhoit would have the leg for 57, but it would be a hell of a kick. His accuracy will go down the further out he gets. We did the right thing the other night.
