Shouldn't we be ranked?

With Georgia barely escaping, even with the home-field advantage, one would think at least one voter would recognize the Vols in a poll. Ironically, Butch's old team shows up on the USA Today poll this week.

No, just no. We are 2-2. Regardless of who we played and how we played them.

I know how it works but many pretend it ranks teams by relative strength. Obviously, it doesn't. It's more reminiscent of a beauty pageant - ranking by which ones have the least flaws.

People thinking that we should get votes to be ranked after two straight losses are really reaching.
It's truly sad how desperate the fans have become.

Yeah. Cincinnati lost to Ohio State its last game. I guess that means they have to lose one more game to be as weak as us.

Shouldn't we be ranked next week? I mean, we are holding our own against the top schools in the nation. Surly we are in the top 25? Of course...NCAA, EasSPN, and the college presidents don't want us in there, but seems like we are good enough.

Pretty sure ESPN, College Presidents and the NCAA doesn't have a vendetta against UT and keeping us from being ranked. You have to win, not hold your own to be ranked. We aren't a top 25 team yet and don't deserve to be ranked.

2014 NCAA College Football Polls and Rankings for Week 6 - ESPN

Nobody in the current polls even have two losses and if they did, they were probably already in the top 25 and didn't lose their past two games.

I don't know what else to tell ya. Hopefully you're not sniffing glue.

Let me preface this statement by saying that I feel a 2-2 team with no impressive wins has absolutely no business being in the top 25.

With that said… I've watched I've watched a lot of college football this year (most games containing at least one "top 25" team) and I'm not convinced Tennessee isn't one of the 25 best teams in the country. So I could see this being a legitimate question from someone who isn't really educated on how the polls work.

Which actually brings me to a question that I've been wondering for a while and maybe someone on here can answer it. When the selection committee is picking the 4 teams that will compete in the playoffs, are they instructed to pick what they feel are the four best teams or the four most deserving teams? Because there is a big difference.

This whole system is scrap. About as far as you can get from unbiased. The selection committee is comprised of college presidents, athletic directors and rice. Every signal one of them has financial gain in the process. College football has pretty much been eaten alive by the money (colleges).

No. You simply can't lose and be considered "Good" in football (unless you're the Cowboys. I live in Texas so...ugh). When we beat Florida we may get a few votes. If we beat Ole Miss afterwards we MIGHT crack it and if we beat Bama we'd be in-between 22-15.

Nothing is impossible, but if we lose to Bama, Ole Miss, or especially both, I seriously doubt we'll be Top 25 for a long while.
