SI.com - Pearlman on Pat Summitt for Men...

There is nothing to suggest that she can consistently win games given a level playing field. Her teams don't really have an offense. Players wouldn't respect her. Top recruits would absolutely never come here. People that think the two sports are equal should hope she never tries coaching men.

If you think her current record doesn't suggest she could consistently win games, I don't know what to tell you. She's been dominate to the point that its foolish to act as if she couldn't coach an average or better than average team in other circumstances.

Could she dominate it? Absoluately not. It is a more competitive game with a larger number of strong athletes.

Does it guarantee she could win in the men's game? No. Most likely she'd produce mediocre results. Which means she has almost the same chance of success as the next coach we have a legitimate shot at getting.

sorry - she wouldn't even produce mediocre results - you can't win without players. Unless there is just a mad amount of Marlon Brown type basketball players with super influential grandmas - then she won't even be able to fill out a roster that a JUCO school would find respectable.

Not to be disrespectful towards women or Pat, but how much of a laughing stock would UT bball become if we did this?

I've heard this joke 1000 times.

There are people who believe the womens team could beat the men. I have had several people tell me that. When that happens I like to tell them about the midnight madness scrimage when the women failed to score against the frat team they practice against.

I think they would be fundamentally sound under pay and likely play smarter ball, but the women benefit from a top 3 roster every year, she coaches great to awesome. With our men right now it would be getting so-so to good. I wouldn't see her as some miracle worker capable of building any longevity

You mean like in the womens game where UT turned it over 24 times in the first half. Of course they still won the game.:dance2:

She is good enough to be sucessful as a men's coach - both recruiting and coaching.

I don't think she would want to do though. It would be step down from where she is. Why go from a top 2 program to a mediocre program?

Only gender biased sports writers think it would be a move up to coach men.

Like I have said before I have a bridge down on Henly St that I will sell to you real cheap. You can charge a toll and make a fortune.

The only reason this would not work is that our men could not handle the discipline that Pat requires to play for her.

IF they did, she would be very successful as a mens coach.

Unbelievable 24 turnovers in one half requires great discipline.:birgits_giggle:

Although I love the idea, I don't see the upside for Pat aside from cash and I doubt cash is all that important to her. Following the lead of Spurrier and Pitino, you jump off the top of the heap into a pile of who knows what below. Why tinker with being one of the best to risk becoming a goat?

Yeah, it's not like there was another part to that sentence that said "given a level playing field" or anything. Keep telling me how dominate she was in a sport most schools spend zero time thinking about.

She would be a mediocre coach with absolutely terrible players. For 2 mil, we can do MUCH better than that.
