Those Pac10 fans will get down and bring out Punting Avgs. fom 1985 to try to get you to believe that the Pac10 is better.

I don't think the Pac10 is garbage, but they aren't close to what we have.

curse shmurse. my dad -- who is a huge 49ers fan -- used to say that whenever the niners were on the cover, that it meant that they were jinxed. Of course, we're talking about the dynasty niners so it never held true. It was just my dad using that as an excuse to expect the worst from the game.

That said, I think that there is no curse. To the contrary, I think that the fact that SI has a vol on the cover is nothing but good for team morale and recruiting.

I mean, if you are a recruit and you see those sharp looking white jerseys with orange lettering and black trim whuppiing up on those bland ass red georgia jerseys....wouldn't you wanna choose UT? I certainly would. And so i think that the SI cover is nothing but good news for vol fans.

I can't wait till it hits newstands so i can buy a copy or two.

I got a feeling that the "Cutcliffe curse" of the late 90's is back to wreak havoc on our competition.

You know Gawwgia is feeling it!!! Just like Ole Times.

couple of things:

if the curse does in fact hold true, OSU has been on the SI cover twice this year. :crossfingers:

plus, as far as exposure, Wardlow is a freshman. so it's good for all the recruits to see that the UT coaches give young players a shot to make big plays on a huge stage.

Bears and Vols! If only it had the Mets instead of the Tigers...then, I would have to consider framing it.

SWEET!
I'll have to add this one to the collection. I had just finished getting all the Tennessee-covered SI issues, I think...

"Championships at Albquerque", 1966 (Richmond Flowers)
"Tennessee Overwhelms Alabama", 1967 (?)
"Double Trouble from Tennessee", 1976 (Ernie & Bernie)
"The Tennessee Waltz", 1985 (Tony Robinson)
"College Football '96", 1996 (Peyton & Archie Manning)
"Gator Bait Again", 1997 (Peyton Manning clay figure)
"The Wizard of Knoxville", 1998 (Pat Summitt)
"Peerless", 1999 (Peerless Price)
National Championship comm. edition, 1999 (Tee Martin)
"The Best College Football Weekends", 2004 (painted fan)

Anybody know if I'm missing any?

Oh man, I can't wait to hear what Pac10 fans have to say about this. There going to freak out.
Nah. We just have a tough time with the trailer park morons who regularly confuse the Pac-10 with the WAC and MWC, then act like geniuses about the game. I know the majority of ya are at least reasonable in your opinions.

Big XII fans might have a beef though... What's the time difference in Big XII country... Here, it's 8:00PM and there it's... 6 years ago? Beware the bitchy tornado that is the Oklahoma fan base.

Really, though, sweet cover.

If someone watches Stanford regularly, they could confuse the PAC-10 with really bad high school football. The same can almost be said of Arizona State.

Didn't UT's MWC opponent provide them with a much more competitive game than their PAC-10 guest did?

I don't understand. If the point of the cover story is to proclaim the SEC the best of the best, why wouldn't you show the best of the SEC, i.e. Florida? Maybe a shot of Tebow throwing the lob pass? Or one of our three picks?

Just kidding you guys!! Nice cover. I like UT getting good press--- makes our W over you all that much more impressive.

Is there really even an argument that the Big 12 or the Pac-10 is a better conference than the SEC? I would challenge somebody to make that argument with a straight face.

And this is not coming from some idiot high school kid. I am an educated adult man, and I have no problem telling pac-10/big-10/big-12/acc fans that their conference is garbage.

Sorry, I'll send out the memo to Pac-10 coaches to run a flexbone triple option next time they play the Vols.

You won't find that argument here, friend. I make no such claims.

Vanderbilt or Ole Miss would beat Stanford by three touchdowns. State would only beat them by two.
