So in this scenario we would be the 10 seed on the road at either Notre Dame or Penn State.

I think we’d drag both of them

I comes down to those first 4 games if we come out of that unscathed we are in good shape. But if we overlook NC state and Oklahoma those games could come out badly. Those are not teams to be overlooked. I think we can and should beat them but its not a given.

Curious but why? We still have terrible secondary coaches.

I strongly disagree that we have terrible secondary coaches. When healthy our secondary has been very good. We have been ravaged with injuries to key guys the past 2 years. That's just a fact. When you cant send the same 5 guys out on the field 2 weeks in a row it hurts. When you have to play and even start walkons for significant amounts of snaps... it hurts. That being said, if the guys we brought in are who we think they are it means we have some good depth behind them now.

I think we’re better than both, but I’d prefer not to play at Penn State or South Bend in late December if we didn’t have to.

Based on? On paper they have similar talent levels and most preseason polls have us both in the top 15 plus they have Hollywood Smothers. That's a hard name to overcome. We do not have a single name on our team as epic as that. Squirrel White is our best and Hollywood beats him by default because gravy.

Remember when we lit up supposedly "better" UGA teams in 2006, 07 and 09? Guess who their DC was? Willie Martinez. The guy has been terrible for 25 years. He routinely gets pantsed by other staff, like he did by Cutcliffe and Kiffin. They say he's a prince of a guy but he needs to be coaching elsewhere. Preferably for an opponent again.

We hope all that is true. Willie Martinez has a long history of being a subpar coach regardless of what players he has that goes back 20 years. I am firmly in the "believe it when I see it" category with Martinez and his charges.

Martinez got Hadden drafted. No one thought that would happen. Hadden getting hurt midway through the season killed that secondary. Martinez got Theo Jackson drafted. No one thought that would happen. And Martinez got Alontae Taylor drafted. He was not in many draft boards before Heupel took the UT job.

Tennessee has lacked talent in the secondary. But Martinez has coached up what little talent we’ve had. He finally has SEC level/NFL prospect CBs in Gibson and McCoy on the outside. Thomas will be the best NB since Jackson. That should be a solid CB group.

You understand that the responsibilities of a DC and position coach are vastly different, right?

I’ve talked about this in another thread talking about this years CFP. Here is the bracket prediction from Andy Staples . I’d take this in a heartbeat. Autzen wouldn’t be easy, but I like our squad. Sure as hell would take FSU in the quarters

Just beat 2 of Alabama Oklahoma Florida Georgia and don't choke any of the other games. We'll be in.

Maybe, although if we lose to Florida that is a bad loss. I personally think we’ll lose at Georgia & Oklahoma and hold serve at home. 10-2 should have us on the bubble, depending on what happens with the rest of the conference.
