SI Ranks College Footballs Best Jobs

Colorado would AT LEAST be on equal footing with the rest of the conference in terms of California recruiting... In Texas recruiting, Colorado was not even a top 5 contender.

Eugene to to San Francisco-8 hrs.
Boulder to San Francisco-20 hrs.

Eugene to LA-14 hrs.
Boulder to LA-17 hrs

Corvallis, Phoenix, Tucson, SLC, Berkeley, Palo Alto, and LA are also closer to both locales than Boulder. Boulder is further from the Bay Area than both WSU ans UW. Its' only advantage is being slightly closer to LA.

Remind me what Colorado has done lately.

Boulder is the draw, regardless of its distance.

And remind me what Oregon did before they started breaking rules and had a Nike budget?

Colorado is a good coach away from being a perennial PAC12 title contender. Oregon is an SI report away from being the next in the line of NCAA sanctions.

They didn't do much, but that's besides the point now. Shall I compare coaching staffs and facilities next?

You say that Colorado is a good coach away from being a contender (well, duh. That's true of almost any major conference school, minus places like Vandy.), but Oregon is more than that right now. 3 straight top ten rankings, two straight conference titles, a BCS NCG game appearance in January, and another close call for an NCG berth before Dixon got hurt are all e ents that have happened in the past 5 years.

Recruits don't give a damn about their split title that happened before they were a zygote {21 years ago).

They haven't won a major bowl since '96, and their laat bowl win was in '04 over the mighty Miners of UTEP.

Lest we bring the 2002 Fiesta Bowl into the discussion.

Nope, Oregon is a good job. It is a lot better now than it used to be.

My opinion is that Colorado has the potential to be a top tier PAC12 program. Catching up with Oregon should be the goal for them, if they are indeed still committed to football. If they are, I think the Colorado job is as good as any in the PAC12 outside of USC.

Oregon is every bit of a top 20-25 job, but the top 10 ranking and being ahead of USC defies logic. The Oregon search for a head basketball coach should show you that facilities don't guarantee that you have a top tier job. Hell, even Tennessee has seen that facilities don't mean all that much. Oregon's recent success is nice, and if they sustain this level for the next decade we can talk about them being a top 10-15 job, but until then... they are still just a flashy, Nike rich, top 5 left coast job. Not a ton of coaches are praying every night that they will get to live in Eugene.

Understood.

For the record, I don't believe Oregon is a top ten job or a better job than USC either, but saying that Colorado is a better job is...out there.

Yea maybe out there a little, I think I just see it as having a lot of potential.

As to one of your previous posts, how in the world Arizona got on that list is incredible. If I were to sit down and write a list of top college football jobs I'm not sure If it would be in the top half.

also lets not forget that colorado couldn't even afford to buy out hawkins contract. i'd actually agree that boulder is probably more attractive to recruits than eugene in general, but the $$$$ gap is too great here.

I have a hard time buying Oklahoma is not that low regardless of what you may think about their recruiting base. And in spite of this past season, I still think Tennessee is a better job than Auburn.

JC Shurburtt has a good list over on 247 main board:

Here are my top 25 jobs in college football- this is based on potential of course. I didn’t downgrade a program because of 1-2 down years or NCAA issues. Now, obviously, over time programs rise and fall which means jobs get better or worse. LSU still would have been a top 10 job in the 1990s, but probably not No. 4. Likewise, Nebraska would have been higher.

If you have a question about your school, I will answer it gladly. Should be a fun discussion.

1. Texas- Facilities, money, huge fan support and the pick of top Texas talent. May be the best overall job by a wide margin. A deep, storied tradition with championships, great players, legendary coaches and more. Proved last summer it has the ability to shift the college football landscape and recently signed an agreement with ESPN to produce its own "Longhorn Network". One of the most nationally-visible programs in the country, similar to Notre Dame, Alabama and others in that regard. Located in one of the best cities to live in the country- Austin, Texas. Excellent championship-level athletics program across the board.

2. Florida- Great home atmosphere, facilities, money, recent tradition, great in-state talent base, can recruit nationally. Great national brand that has been established the last 20 years. Located in a state that is a desirable location for most Americans to visit and live. Excellent championship-level athletics program across the board.

3. Florida State- Tradition, great facilities, money, large following, great upward mobility in the ACC, tremendous college town. Is highly competitive and in many cases the preferred college choice of the top prospects in the top talent-producing state in the country. Located in a state that most Americans find desirable to visit and live. Great national brand that appeals to recruits. A football school, but good in other sports at times.

4. LSU- Pick of top Louisiana talent, tremendous home atmosphere, money, facilities- a football school, but good in other sports as well. A deep tradition that includes championships, legendary coaches and great players. Has had more of a national appeal than in the past since the Nick Saban era in the early 2000s. No excuse to not win every year at LSU.

5. Ohio State- Pick of top Ohio talent, tremendous fan support, money, facilities, national following. Excellent athletics program across the board. The recent issues aside, the program has a long, storied tradition that includes championships, legendary coaches an great players. It may be rough-sledding in the near future, but typically the Buckeyes enjoy a national appeal in recruiting to supplement the elite Ohio players they sign. Underrated academics and one of the largest student bodies in America.
