Is there a precedent for something like this actually happening here? I'm trying to figure out why folks seem to bring it up every year.

I remember that at road games, non-scholarship players were not permitted to eat at the furnished team meals. Team would eat at nice places, walkons on the trip ate fast food and paid for their own. There is a lot more to someone being on scholarship than just paying tuition... access to tutors, travel expenses, gear from Nike... I don't think non-scholarship players can receive any of that. It would separate a leader from the rest of the team, and is a bad idea even if his parents would agree to it.

I'm seriously considering walking on the program. Any more information like this? Do you all think it is worth it to walk-on at UT?

Kid works hard his whole life and turns into one of the best players in the country. Why reward him? Maybe he can pay for another players too to free up more scholarships.

There is no precedent for it anywhere.... It is such a facially stupid idea I can't imagine a coach even broaching the subject.

Ah, the ole "hey his family's rich so how's about taking one for the team and opening up a scholarship" thought.

Nope. Never heard this one before.
