I'm seriously considering walking on the program. Any more information like this? Do you all think it is worth it to walk-on at UT?

All I know is what is reported. If you are considering walking on, I'd talk to someone at the University about it. I do know that they can't provide big benefits for non-scholarship players... I'm sure that is to prevent games where non-scholarship players can be given perks that circumvent the scholarship limits.

I have a friend who walked on back in the 80s. Never took a snap, only dressed for a game or two. But he values the experience and is a VFL. If you know what you hope to get out of walking on, it makes the decision easier.

Good luck, whatever your decision. :hi:

If you're a pro-caliber athlete, you should never play for free, and the NCAA is insulting enough with scholarship only. That's why this premise is insane.

Calm down, everyone. This is starting to read like the FF. As one of my favorite professors once said, "The only stupid questions are the ones that go unasked." Someone had a question and came here looking for an answer. Isn't that a big part of what this forum is for?

And, incidentally, they're is precedent IIRC. An All-American Vol B-ball player's father paid his tuition for his last season or two, specifically to free up a scholarship.

How about the OP paying for Khalil's tuition to save us a scholarship and then he can pay for Jalen's as well.

Then, you haven't been on here long.

The same silliness was suggested for the Berry twins to be paid for by Eric last year. There is one thing you just can't fix.

Can't believe it took four pages for someone to Mention that it drove me crazy last year and now it's back

I could see it if his dad had more money than brains, and lived/breathed Tennessee football. Apart from that, why in the hell would he?

Difference being, his dad was the coach and it helped him build a better team.

I'm aware of that. Whether it directly or indirectly benefited the father is immaterial. I'm just pointing out, to anyone who says it has "never" happened, that a father has indeed paid for his elite athlete son's tuition to free up a scholarship. And it even happened at UT.

Overwhelming majority of COLLEGE athletes are not PRO-CALIBER athletes. Add in all the incredible perks they receive for being an athlete an major program like Tennessee to the small matter of a scholarship that after 4 years will value between $80 and $100k.....I think they're getting a pretty decent deal. They're a long way from playing for free IMO.
