Sick of J.P. Prince

Wooo! He gets 1.5 whole steals and Chism gets 1.4. A whole .1 steals more. Amazing considering he can't shoot a free throw (2nd in attempts on the team but shooting 58.5%) and is 6th (technically 5th with Smith gone) in points. Which is more important? 1.5 steals or 6.8 points?

How can I be more clear? Are you reading my actual posts? He can play. I would play him. I would just adjust his behavior so he didn't play like a fool. I would tell him to mimic Chism.

In all fairness, I have seen Chism pound his chest, talk smack, and act the fool as well. I also hope no one mimics Chism's inconsistancy and foul problems either.

I agree, mostly, with what you say about Prince.

Fair enough. Let's use Eric Berry as a better example? :)

Read through this thread again. Slowly.

Where did I say I wouldn't play him?

Go ahead, I'll wait.

I never said that you said you wouldnt play him. Im just wondering if you really think he is good enough to play why you would feel the need to post about how "bad" his stats are. It makes no sense. If your issue is with his character stick to that. But in all fairness JP hasnt embarrassed us off the court like other guys that are playing now (Tatum, Goings).

I brought in the stats for the poster that said he was invaluable to the team. From a stats perspective it certainly doesn't look that way.

But considering how shorthanded we are in the rotation it isn't like you can willingly sit the guy. I get that. Hopefully he's going to have more games like tonight -- but learn to be an adult about playing the game.

My mistake then. :hi:

I agree with you about the rotation but what you need to understand is that on every level of basketball and on every team there are guys who get fired up and let it show on the court. Some people feed off of that and it is contagious to other people. I just saw the replay of both of his technical fouls on ESPN. The hand did not seem intentional and I've gotten a tech before for hanging on the rim. Thats not that big of a deal.

JP Prince is a good kid and a good student. Does his emotion get the best of him at times?........Yes, but I don't think that it is a bad thing necessarily, I think it is more of getting caught up in the moment. The first tech on him may or may not have been warranted.....it seemed that he was just trying to get away from the wrap up (I was there, so I am not sure). I think the second one was a quick whistle, but I believe that it was probably warranted. He is becoming more of a leader on the court and his quickness on defense has been proven time and again. We would be so much worse off without him. Quick question B-Ham, if Lofton had made the three point signal with his hands everytime he hit a three, would you have been tired of him as well?

So no comment? Would you rather our players be thugs and we have more incidents like the ones our football and basketball programs have enjoyed recently?

You call it swagger. Swagger seemed to work so well for Kiffin, Nu'Keese, Janzen, Mike Edwards, Brian Williams, Tyler Smith, Goins, and Tatum...

Prince has never had any off the court problems, so I have no idea why you are comparing him to guys who did.

So let make sure im getting this right you are calling J.P a thug for what he did tonight.

I am as frustrated with Princes play as anyone, but he is not a thug. He just does not have control of his emotions, at all. I would think the son of a coach would be a more disciplined and heady player. Alas, that is not the case.

I have a love/hate relationship with watching Prince. As I said earlier, he is magnificent, and magnificently flawed.

J.P. indeed carried the Vols tonight. His fire is great, though his free throw shooting is atrocious. What some of you haters call "showboating" I call enthusiasm. Wish Wayne would have mixed it up more with the vandie cheap shot artists...they need to be taught a hard lesson.

I am really sick of watching JP Prince act like he is Mr. Big Balla.

Even after tonight when he scored a ton of points... he cost his team with the 2nd technical and could have cost them with the 1st technical.

Act like you've been there.

Even when he is having an off night he acts like he is the biggest badass.

I am sick of his attitude. I understand having a passion and playing with emotion... I just feel like he is so far beyond just playing with emotion. Compare him to Chism for a good example of how to act on court.

I like how your sick of JP but your ok with Mcbee going what 3 for 20 since the Kansas game? Without JP we lose by 20 or more,if you want to blame anybody then blame Pearl for letting Mcbee miss one right after the other and standing on the sideline clapping his hands.JP is the blame? you cant be serious

JP is too inconsistent! He does act like he is the supreme balla without the stats to back it up! And what is it with that ugly facial expression every time he makes a basket?

Right. If you took his 22 off the board, we would have only gotten by 30 instead of 10. And his near triple double against Ole Miss didn't help at all either. We would be so much better off with McBee taking his minutes and playing no defense and not scoring.
Great analysis.

Prince is a freaking idiot. It's funny to me how good he thinks he is. It's basically delusional.

The second T I think was a bad call he does that all the time and they never call it.Also if you don't believe in yourself in basketball you will be eaten alive. So his attitude, is to me a showing of confidence.

I have also seen him do it numerous times this season. IMO these incidents are a showing lack of discipline. CBP is an outstanding coach, but is Prince lazy? Pearl has done a outstanding job at getting the most out of his players, but Prince has been by far his worst protege. He seems to take of 3 outta' 5 playes, and as a high sschool coach, I'd T him up everytime he "showed off". I think CBP will do what Prince needs, and cut his minutes, a few weeks before the tourny, and make him work hard, and prove that he wants to be all he can be for the fans, and for the "NEW" tradition of tennessee BBball. But hey, BP is a great coach, and before Prince leaves, he'll get more out of him, or this is one player CBP will remember as a something he could have done better

He's not giving the 3 signal. He's giving his jersey number like he's the best thing since sliced bread.

And if Lofton acted like an idiot as well, no I wouldn't be okay with that.

When did I say I was okay with McBee shooting 3s from 6 feet behind the line? I never said anything remotely close to that. I also never said this loss was JP's fault.

Reading comprehension. Work on it.

Right. If you took his 22 off the board, we would have only gotten by 30 instead of 10. And his near triple double against Ole Miss didn't help at all either. We would be so much better off with McBee taking his minutes and playing no defense and not scoring.

Again, where did I say I'd rather have McBee? Anywhere?

I have also seen him do it numerous times this season. IMO these incidents are a showing lack of discipline. CBP is an outstanding coach, but is Prince lazy? This. It's about discipline and class.

This is the most delusional set of comments I've seen in a while:

...Saying that I'd rather have McBee out there
...Saying I wouldn't play Prince
...Saying the loss is JP's fault

Reading comprehension. I never said anything remotely close to any of that. At least read the post before you try to explain your point.

Bottom line: no one has shown me why being great in basketball and having a little class have to be mutually exclusive.

Or is class not permitted in basketball these days?

OK...JP had a good game last night....So he has had about 5 good games in his Tennessee career. He is by far the worst of the players who get significant minutes. He's arrogant and cocky and will end up in the NBDL (if he's lucky)....I honestly don't think I have ever disliked a player more than Prince. His actions before tip-off against Memphis was ridiculous, I mean if this guy averaged 20pts 6 rebounds and 4 steals a game I may tolerate it. But when you average single digit points and more tunrovers than steals...shut your dam& mouth and be happy you got a schoalrship

I do get aggravated to no end watching JP.
Its like he makes a great play then cancels it out with a foolish no look pass.

He might have the worst BBALL IQ I have ever seen.

But to his credit he played his heart out last night and aside from the Techs he had a great game.

How did he act like an idiot? Because his hand smacked the Vandy kid? Really? Sure. Why don't we just skip the rest of our games and play in a church league with free dinner afterwards?? Some of you people are amazing. If your concerns is the way Prince played tonight than the hell with the rest of the season. I'm more concerned with Pearl playing McBrick and JR and Tatum riding the pine.

Dude take your orange goggles off and put the orange koolaid down. Prince is a thug. He didn't accidentally "hand" slap that kid. He PURPOSELY did it. You're naive if you think otherwise. He's does more to hurt us than he does to help us. And I’m factoring team perspective in that as well. Sure he puts decent numbers up most games but his negative intangibles are detrimental to the production and cohesiveness of this team.

Without JP's play last night the game would have been a complete rout. Give him a break---even when he plays well you folks want to attack him. Ridiculous!
