Signing day surprise prediction thread

Boulware is not being asked to look around. Won't happen

I like him, so I hope not, but if Hubbs is correct that Butch will ask players to look around, then you have to look at where our needs are less pressing. We have lots of OGs on the team, but few OTs. Hall is already on campus, so if you cut an OG, it's Stewart(a TN kid) or Boulware. I don't want to see him go, but it's less of a position of need so you have to wonder.

Other options, and I know people are going to hate to hear this name, include Oliver. We have 4 TEs already on the team. Butch loves the position, but I think he'd be happy with 4, and Ethan's little brother, though he'll need a year in the S&C program, is walking on. Losing Oliver would sting as well because he's a TN kid, and he's close to some of our other commits, but because of his position, he's a possibilty.

Hubbs was on the radio yesterday talking about NSD surprises Butch would supposedly have. If I remember correctly, and you'll have to forgive me because my memory isn't what it used to be, he said some current commits would lose their spots and be asked to look around, and he added, it'll be rough, because some of these kids have become fan favorites.

I'm not an insider, and I haven't talked to Hubbs. I'm just going off of what he said on the radio and common sense. Common sense says if you have to make cuts, you cut where you have the least amount of need. You don't cut at positions you need help as soon as possible at. But please, you or anyone else that has a subscription to Hubbs site, feel free to ask him to clarify what he said on the radio yesterday. I'd love to be able to take all these guys plus more, but numbers are numbers.

Seriously, anyone with a subscription, Ron(?), ask Hubbs what he meant. See if he drops any clues. I'd love to know more about what's going on, but barring that, all we can do is speculate.

Look, I want Richmond and Allen, but we cannot be in the business of telling some of our most committed kids to look elsewhere 7 days before signing day. Boulware was wearing a damn Tennessee sweatshirt when Richt showed up to his school last week for Christ's sake. It's dirty and will make future athletes take our coaches promise's with a grain of salt.

I don't disagree, but my name isn't Butch Jones and I'm not the HC of the Tennessee Vols. I'm going off what I heard Hubbs say on the radio yesterday and speculating. I've already asked anyone with a subscription to his site to clarify what he meant. He said some fans would be disappointed by some guys asked to walk to make room for Butch's NSD surprises. If I've misinterpreted that, I apologize, but that is how I heard it.

Serious question, if cuts get made, do you not believe the cuts will come from positions of less need? I know everyone loves to throw the LS out there, but everything I've read and heard suggests the guy will be a blue shirt and not even count in this class, so he doesn't factor in to making room. The only way I see us cutting from a position of need is if the replacement plays the same position of need. That would make sense. Doing otherwise does not, imo.

Have I killed the thread or is someone trying to get clarification on what Hubbs said on the radio?

If Butch makes cuts it would probably be position for position at this stage. I'm not a fan, but that would be my guess. If he has a surprise OG, it would probably be for a current OG. RB would be for RB CB for CB and so on. Jmo

As for the blue shirt stuff. We'll see. Lots of talk about it last class and in the end, not so much.

It's hard to have reasonable conversation on VN at any point during the year. I forget it's darn near impossible to have reasonable conversation during this time of the year.

I'm biased because I went to the same high school as stewart goes to but I will be disappointed if he cuts on signing day after being committed for so long and never wavering.

If I remember Hubbs words correctly, we'll add a few and lose a few due to numbers. Adding Richmond and/or Allen might mean losing Boulware. My personal opinion, Boulware has good potential as an OG, but we are guard heavy. True OTs are in need. Should someone like Rico flip to the Vols, I could see Miller being asked to look around.

If any of this happens, Leb will most likely have an aneurism, so be prepared for longwinded rants on how disloyal Butch is to recruits. Personally, I agree it's wrong to pull the rug out from under a kid on NSD, but that's jmo, and now I've expressed it. I won't hammer it into the ground with post after post after post like a certain poster we all know and lov.....maybe I'll just leave it at know.
Rather have boulware that Stewart, but I guess Stewart will be getting one of those blue or grey shirts.

Not a big fan of "cutting." Hopefully we will be in a position to stop needing to do that in a couple of years.

As long as bigger fish decide at the last minute, I do not think Tennessee will ever not be in this position. It is the new reality of becoming the best.

Most on here know DeerPark is pretty reliable UT info wise. He said Paulk is absolutely guilty and there was a room full of witnesses. Yeah, the girl can say it didn't happen. DP said he will not return. We'll see.

I've seen DP miss and I think he was right at one time about Paulk but Mueller and Eazy say he is likely coming back. Add GFW saying he is at Thornton which doesn't happen if you are still considered guilty of what Paulk did. Not sure how I feel about it but it seems he'll be back.

Hubbs has said the staff's not done and we'll lose a few current recruits. Coaches thought a few of our recruits who took late visits elsewhere might decommit, but all but one of those look solid. Two names have been mentioned as recruits who might be on the bubble, and some of the TN kids will GS or BS.

It would be surprising if Boulware is not a part of this class. But who knows?

I may be in the minority here, but I would hate for kids already committed to get shafted this close to signing day. Hopefully we can take a couple of more without losing current recruits. There's not one recruit that we can afford to turn away at this point.

No kid will get shafted. They don't have to sign on signing day so they have options to take visits and delay their signing.

After reading GFWs post in DRs thread my mind started running wild so help me out anyone please:

Drew Richmond
Pat Allen
Camion Patrick
Feel free to add as these top guys arent out of the loop Surprise wise....
Ive since read:

Clay Helton (who?)
Ricky Deberry
Chuma Edoga(been out of the loop long time)

Sign Drew Richmond and BS Patrick and then put a lid on this class!

For him to be seriously in play, I'd think he would have taken an OV. If he was as some say a BS candidate, I would have expected him to include UT when he said AU and UL lead.

He has been to UT a good bit the first go around right? I think if he has a committable offer he will be a Vol.

They can absolutely get the shaft. What if no one in their top 10 has a spot? You can bet if it were your kid getting dumped last second, you would be having a fit.

Incorrect..They wouldn't have to commit to a top ten class. Is no different than them giving schools the shaft when they say they are signing at one school then fax their papers to another. I really doubt they get told to look around 5 days prior. If they are wavering and been visiting elsewhere I guarantee the Coach's have been upfront about it..Either you're all in or you get replaced by someone who is. Recruiting is a dirty game and is happens on both ends of it. It's exactly the same thing if we have a QB committed so we tell another kid we have our guy so we don't have a spot. But signing day that kid doesn't tell the Coach's and signs elsewhere. Then we are out two QB's and screwed for the class. Happens on both ends bro.

I said their top 10 as in offers, not top 10 class in the country.

I've always been fine with replacing a kid who is looking around. My comment was not directed at that scenario as most names being mentioned as a "dump em", "BS em" , or make them accept a GS or they can walk" would be what I am talking about.

Butch wants to replace PW, Oliver, Miller, Bussey, Boulware, you won't hear a thing negative from me.

I'd bet Ford was not told upfront about it. Just by his reaction to it alone. He wasn't taking visits either.
