Silent Commits

I did and there are threads that don't look relevant and i dont feel like browsing 1000 pages..Is there a short answer to my original question..

Short Answer: When Rod Wilks was being recruited, there was a poster on the board that was very very high on him being the next big star at UT. Other posters started using the "Chuck Norris" jokes with Rod Wilks in place and a running joke was born...

Note: I am not calling Rod Wilks himself a running joke. If I did do that, I would expect to be dead by the end of the hour...

YOu will never get the true answer because no one wants to disturb the trust of Rod Wilks.

I never recommend bringing up Rod Wilks before noon. If he decides to sleep in and you conjur him up, disturb him, or wake him suddenly......there could be nuclear implications. :eek:hmy:

Every year people come up with these optimistic delusions that we have a whole bunch of amazing silent commits, but it never pans out. We may be in a good standing with many of these players (except Reuben Randle), but that's the end of the story IMO.

i have to agree here... id say there maybe 1 or two silents but thats it and i think one is King

This is a good post, and I think you are correct. The kids who are uncommitted at this point, by and large, have planned on having a public announcement on NSD, so they aren't going to go public a week before then after waiting this long. However, that doesn't prevent them from hinting privately to coaches.

They would want to confirm with coaches that there will be a slot for them, but asked the coaches not to reveal anything before NSD...makes sense. The reason someone like Teague might be silent is to keep UF coaches off his back. If he's changed his mind and is tired of the hassle, he might just continue to say everything's cool, nothing's changed and sign something different on NSD. Being he's from TN, he wouldn't have to deal with any fall out from family and friends.

Man, I can't wait to see Rod Wilks play!!! He's probably the sole reason why his recruitment class was so small...if you have Rod you don't need no one else.

I completely understand what everyone is saying about silent commits not being realistic because of the hype factor and NSD TV announcements.

My question to you is: Isn't that the purpose of a SILENT committment? To keep things under wraps? This way everyone gets the hype factor while the school and the recruit get to have farmiliarity with one another early. The recruit will know that there is definately a spot for them, and the school will know what they have so far and what else they might need.

Just a thought.

Rod Wilks is so fast you'd be dead before you hit "Post Reply."

I don't know what to say about all this at this point other than I am extremely disturbed that Oku, Stokes, and Thigpen are all waivering. It just seems like the trend every year is getting worse. When a player gives a verbal commit it really doesn't mean a damn thing anymore. Fewer and fewer players show integrity and loyalty to teams anymore. I hate how football is becoming more of a business than the love for the game now.

More than ever before, situations change on a daily basis in recruiting. It's not just the kids, it's also the coaches recruiting them. The idea of a "commit" just isn't as strong any more and that goes for both players and coaches. This should be expected more and more as college football becomes bigger business. Also, with historically weaker conferences on the rise and with all the good coaching out there a kid has more options than ever before and is receiving more attention than ever before. Their every word/move gets dissected on the internet and that wasn't the case in the past.

How can Eddie Lacy be a silent commit if he hasn't visited yet? I thought most silents commit on a visit and Lacy's visit is on the 30th.....

I believe all the silents are...

Eddie Lacy
Marsalis Teague
Alshon Jeffery
Pearlie Graves
Greg King

and im getting a feeling Reuben Randle is a silent

If you believe this it probably means every one of those guys will go elsewhere. You are wrong pretty much every time you say something. RR is all LSU.
