Skinner out at BC

Anyone who expects Bruce not to seriously consider an offer from BC is only fooling himself. Worst of all, he would probably take that great recruiting class with him. Hate to say it, but it's in the back of every Vol fan's mind right now. Mike Hamilton had better open the floodgates on the coffers.
That's a perfect screen name. You have to be retarded to think Pearl would leave for a college job.

Yea because there are tons of NBA teams blowing up the Pump's phones to set up an interview for Bruce.

From who they said BC was going after on sportscenter I would guess BC will be paying their new coach about half of what we are paying Pearl.

Not worried in the least.

I'd be willing to bet a years salary he doesn't leave for BC. Its not a college sports town...hockey is more important to BC than basketball

Do you even read what you write?

No one ever said there was any NBA teams trying to set up an interview with Bruce.

Pearl hasn't lived in Boston for almost 30 years. His family is in Tennessee now. They love it here. His kids have never even lived in Boston. Tennessee will pay a lot more, has better facilities. I just don't see a lot of really strong reasons for Pearl to get sentimental and try to rebuild Boston College.

I think the best reason for Pearl staying is that he's 50. He's putting the finishing touches on rebuilding the Vols program. I don't see him wanting to take the time to do the same thing somewhere else and not enjoy the fruits of his labor here.

These threads are dreamed up because the Vols had a great year and everyone is insecure b/c of the Kiffin debacle.

Until we get a decent football coach, or Dooley shocks the world, we'll read these threads all year long after any major college team has a coaching change. There's no way around it, and we'll just have to get used to it.

Plus in addition to the conversation, it will be stephen pearls senior year, so why leave now anyway. I think Pearl is a VOL!

As a huge Notre Dame fan, I always laugh at Fredo when they get uppity. We beat them every day of the year in football recruiting, but they get lucky for 3 hours on a particular Saturday and act like it somehow matters. Last time I checked, (365 * 24) > 3, but, you know, that's just me.

Having said that, this Bruce Pearl thing is utterly laughable. Boston College is your classic "they are what they are" school. Do you remember when BC when 20-0 a few years ago? Do you remember how upset the national media was at the notion that a school like that had a big winning streak? Any serious coach does, and thus will go no place where Digger, Fran Fraschilla and Jimmy Dykes would ask why on Earth they went to a place like that?

Fact is, the perfect candidate for BC is former Mike Brey assistant and current Holy Cross head coach Sean Kearney. Coach Kearney led the Crusaders to the 2009-10 Patriot League preseason championship. It took him far too long to get a head job, so even a bottom-dwelling ACC job would be a nice boost to his retirement account. More importantly, he's a good man and would know his place and that of BC in the world of college basketball. I just hope Boston College for once thinks of someone besides themselves.

What makes you think he could even get them admitted to BC?

That's one of the reasons they seem to lose coaches all of the time. The school's administration is always pulling power trips on the coaches and refusing to admit recruits for academic reasons, even if their grades aren't bad.

Between that, and having an AD who seems to think it's his God-given right to fire any coach who dares look into another job, and any coach in their right mind would think twice about going to BC. Especially one who just won 28 games without his best player, made the Elite Eight, and has a great class coming in.

I'd be more worried if St. John's was casting around in Knoxville, or even DePaul, than I am about Boston College.

Rumor is that they contacted Pearl Sunday night and he is interested. Question is do we pony up the money?

At this point, that is drivel.

I would be watching Donahue, Coen, and Mooney.

so does HatVOL have any other dumb jokes including something about Health Care, now that every one else has joined in my concern for Bruce leaving for his alma mater....sorry I should have waited until you gave this idea.....

True 'dat. Pearl would be King of New York or Chicago if he took those jobs; at Tennessee he runs behind football and is tied with chick basketball .

Really though, I don't see those programs getting Pearl. He'd leave immediately for a Notre Dame, UCLA, USC, Duke, Carolina, Kansas or Kentucky.

Otherwise you'd always get a chance to counteroffer, but he'd probably leave for a Michigan, Ohio State, UConn, Florida, Cal, Stanford, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Maryland, Miami, Florida State, Wisconsin, Indiana, Purdue, Washington, Oregon, Georgetown, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Villanova, Louisville, Arizona, Arizona State, NC State, Virginia, Wake, Hawaii, Michigan State, or even a New Mexico (if they match the Pit renovation with top-notch training facilities and a substantial budget).

Otherwise, though, I would expect Pearl to stay right where he is and to deliver lots of wins.

:lolabove: I don't know what you're smokin, but you have CBP leaving for just about every job there is. Tennessee is now one of the top 10 BB jobs in the nation thanks to CBP. He's not going anywhere!:salute:

Why in the world did you put Notre Dame with UNC, UCLA, Kansas, etc.? Notre Dame isn't even as good as the Tennessee job.

Otherwise, New Mexico? Hawaii? I think you need to take a hard look at our resources, facilities, recruiting, fan support, etc. at Tennessee before making a fool of yourself.

Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida State, Miami, New Mexico, both Oklahoma schools? You're kidding right? These are not basketball schools. New Mexico isn't an anything school.
