Skinner out at BC

Anyone who expects Bruce not to seriously consider an offer from BC is only fooling himself. Worst of all, he would probably take that great recruiting class with him. Hate to say it, but it's in the back of every Vol fan's mind right now. Mike Hamilton had better open the floodgates on the coffers.

he couldnt take the recruiting class because they have already signed their LOI.
Pearl has a wife from Tn and I think she will have some input on this and I dont think he leaves. If the recruiting class coming in wasnt as good as it is then I would say he might go but with what he has coming in and this program is one of the tops in the country makes me think he doesnt leave.

True 'dat. Pearl would be King of New York or Chicago if he took those jobs; at Tennessee he runs behind football and is tied with chick basketball .

Really though, I don't see those programs getting Pearl. He'd leave immediately for a Notre Dame, UCLA, USC, Duke, Carolina, Kansas or Kentucky.

Otherwise you'd always get a chance to counteroffer, but he'd probably leave for a Michigan, Ohio State, UConn, Florida, Cal, Stanford, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Maryland, Miami, Florida State, Wisconsin, Indiana, Purdue, Washington, Oregon, Georgetown, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Villanova, Louisville, Arizona, Arizona State, NC State, Virginia, Wake, Hawaii, Michigan State, or even a New Mexico (if they match the Pit renovation with top-notch training facilities and a substantial budget).

Otherwise, though, I would expect Pearl to stay right where he is and to deliver lots of wins.

Ridiculous.

Eight hopefuls start on Providence dance card - BostonHerald.com

Bruce Pearl said Boston still has a big place in his heart.

“I’m a diehard Red Sox [team stats] fan,” the Tennessee men’s basketball coach said yesterday. “I’m a Faneuil Hall guy, I’m a North End guy. I grew up at a time with forced busing and I grew up a time when I knew the different neighborhoods. I worked summer jobs at Casey & Hayes - the red (moving) trucks in downtown Boston. I have a love and a great passion for Boston

Pearl grew up in Sharon and attended Boston College, where he was a student assistant coach on Tom Davis’ staff for four years. Pearl steadily worked his way up the coaching ranks before landing the head job at Tennessee in 2005.

Though it’s been 28 years since he lived in the area, Pearl said growing up around Boston had a major impact on his life.

“Being at Boston College gave me the foundation,” Pearl said. “It gave the education and the foundation through being an assistant for Dr. Tom Davis to be able to learn and be able to go off on my own and be able to continue coaching college basketball.”

so does HatVOL have any other dumb jokes including something about Health Care, now that every one else has joined in my concern for Bruce leaving for his alma mater....sorry I should have waited until you gave this idea.....
Yeah, everyone seems petrified that BC is suddenly going to change course from the Amakers and Donahues of the world and make a run at Pearl.

Why in the world did you put Notre Dame with UNC, UCLA, Kansas, etc.? Notre Dame isn't even as good as the Tennessee job.

Otherwise, New Mexico? Hawaii? I think you need to take a hard look at our resources, facilities, recruiting, fan support, etc. at Tennessee before making a fool of yourself.

:lolabove: You're joking, right?

Uh, let's. review. very. slow.ly. Yes, the Notre Dame basketball job is far more prestigious than the University of Tennessee's. ND can go get a national broadcast for its basketball any time it wants. They simply choose to work with the Big East and ESPN for the greater good of college basketball.

Seriously, would you rather spend the year on Waikiki or in Knoxville? Exactly.

As for New Mexico, the Pit is a hallowed ground in college basketball. But I give you credit, the renovated Pit in and of itself is not enough. They also have to step up with facilities, money, recruiting hostesses, weight rooms, etc. If they don't then you'd easily hold them off.

Look, I don't see your problem. I laugh at Fredo thinking they could get Pearl even though he's from Massachusetts and a BC grad and loves BC and the Northeast. But as Kiffin showed, you're simply not all that in the world of college athletics. When he left, did Herbstreit, Corso, Palmer or James bash Kiffin's decision? Of course not. Now their basketball counterparts would laugh if Pearl goes to BC, but they wouldn't laugh if he went to a New Mexico (under the above conditions) or a Hawaii or a Oklahoma State. Just sayin' is all.

Yeah, Notre Dame is such a prestigious job it draws has beens like John MacLeod and never will bes like Mike Brey. Oh, great call on Kearney. I'm sure BC is dying to hire a guy who Holy Cross fired today.

Notre Dame shuns millions of dollars for the good of college basketball, that makes perfect sense.

Right, because New Mexico, Hawaii and Oklahoma State are good basketball comparisons for USC's football program. I mean, I want to take you seriously, but you have to try very hard to be this misinformed.

Let us know when Notre Dame is relevant again.

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!! Notre Dame is about to lose its NBC every game on tv crap pretty soon pal. Their ratings are down, they play a crap schedule, and they SUCK! Give it a few years and they will be BEGGING for the Big Ten to take them.

Notre Dame has a basketball team?!?!?! Have they won a tourney game recently? Would anyone one this board besides hat know who their coach if he popped out of their toilet?

No one gives a damn about Notre Dame basketball. You might get some South Bend cable access station to handle the demand of the 27 ND basketball fans, but no real network would stop laughing to consider a deal with the Irish for basketball.

I'm also sure that people would rather be in Waikiki than Indiana, as well. Unfortunately, recruits seem to be missing this amazing opportunity to play for the storied Hawaii program.

We are quite lucky, though, that we've managed to stay ahead of a Mountain West powerhouse in New Mexico with their zero Sweet 16s. I know every kid with a ball and a dream aspires to hit the winning shot at the historic Pit.

We are an infinitely better job than any of those places.

I just think it's odd that a Notre Dame guy is saying Tennessee's not "all that" when Notre Dame hasn't been relevant in really anything for 20 years.

This is one of the dumbest posts I have ever read on a website. The sad thing is, many of the wannabe experts on here would agree that UT is not a top 10 basketball program and that Pearl would rather be in 15-20 other places. It is all absurd and wrong.

This should be a dead give away. However, I think the guy was just trying to get a rise and showed his hand with the Hawaii reference. Hawaii is a nice place, but when the only notable basketball player from there is Barack Obama, I'm guessing it's not quite a basketball powerhouse.

First, I have no problem with your "insults". As Notre Dame fans we can't get upset over every little jealous comment. Recruits read our boards, and if they saw us act as if we care what some random SEC fans think, then they'd wonder if Notre Dame is really the preeminent athletic and academic institution in the nation. If you're insecure, you lose.
If anyone should know about losing, it's Notre Dame fans of recent vintage.

I love that his rec got the canned from Holy Cross.

Mike Brey...what a winner. Oh and that Matt Dougherty did great after Nd too.

I don't think he goes, the AD at BC seems a little strange. Bruce Pearl or whoever goes to BC better make it home because they will never ever be able to talk to anyone about a better job. I don't see Bruce going to BC, he is building something at UT, he has the money, the facilities, and he is getting the players.
DeFilippo is a Fulmer crony...
