Smart Business solution to fire now rather than later

I imagine they are letting Dooley coach out the season to keep the media buzzards from flying around in Harts office, while quietly trying to sign the next coach.

If the right guy is standing behind the podium in Nov or Dec, it will instantly galvanize the fan base, recruiting will surge, and all of this will seem like a very, very, bad dream.

If the wrong guy is announced as HC, well ....

So, who is the right guy?
Is Gruden the only name?
Are there others?

Only time will tell.

I'm looking forward to it.

Hmmm...and Hart can measure that with....?

Again, Hart gains nothing with a public firing. It is already done.

I disagree. Recruiting would see a boost IF Hart were to go public with the hiring. There is a reason guys like M. North and D. Green were about to commit and then backed off it following the UF game. They wanted to see that UT was going to be a winner again in the SEC. They wanted to see Tennessee was not going to settle for losing seasons. Fire Dooley now and I think several recruits would be all ears listening to who the next guy would be. If it's a good hire, the recruits will jump on board. Waiting this out till December sets us up to lose out on these kids. IMO, knowing Dooley would not be here will help recruiting.

Nope. Hart has no reason to fire early. Does nothing for him.

I think we should have learned something from the past. You do not fire a coach, in today's atmosphere, before you have someone much better lined up and agree to to retain certain asst. coaches. If Hart has made up his mind to fire Dooley, he should be working on his replacement and get his ducks in a row before he relents to a certain portion of our divided fan base. The difficulty in getting this accomplished is decent coaches will not want to face our fans base unless the impatient negative group can/will agree that it takes more than three years to completely rebuild a football program. We have made great progress in rebuilding the offense, but not so well in rebuilding the defense. We need to make sure we do not destroy the progress which has been made in the offense. This could be very difficult for Hart to accomplish. Usually this can be obtained simply by replacing the DC. I realize this would not set well with the Dooley haters. Therefore, we more than likely will face a complete rebuild of the entire coaching staff and likely lose many of our current players to the NFL and transfers, as well as lose many of our current committed players for next year. I am not sure the Tennessee football program can survive another full overhaul next year.

There are ways you do things. Appearance of stability is key for future coaches as well as players who want to avoid what last year's seniors went throuth. Plus shis is not as heavy of a recruiting season as August/September and middle December through signing day.

Right way to handle is let Dooley "retire" at the end of the season with a well messaged resignation that says he was holding himself accountable as much as anyone else. Obviously he is not be retained and their will be a buyout, but acting like its the Apprentice and saying you are fired out of order would do nothing except get off a bunch of rabid fans.

Have the next coach lined up (maybe in process), give the man dignity (he improved several things here and gave it his all, just may not have been fully up to the HC job at this point in his career) and make the hire announcement 4-7 days later. Still plenty of time to get in recruit living rooms.

I will further qualify my last comment that Dooley wasn't up to this head coaching role...it was a disaster when he got there post Kiffin. He may have fared better at a different program with the right time.

I think if Jay were named interm they may pick up a few more fans in the stands. I for one am enjoying the cheap ticket prices and good weather. I took a family of 5 to game yesterday for $20.00 and that was for parking.

How did you pull that off? I want to take my 2.5 year old to his first game next week, but don't want to pay a lot since he'll probably just last a quarter.

Now that Kentucky has fired joker what does that add to making the decision if anything?
