Snakes

For those of us in TN, we should only worry about snakes if we hear it (rattler) or smell it (water moccasin). I don't want to get bit by a copperhead, but it's very unlikely that their venom will kill a person or even a dog or cat. People further south can worry about coral snakes, not my problem.

While true lethality isn't the only concern. Black Widow or Brown Recluse bites are very seldom fatal but I want no part of being tagged by any of them.

I'm all understanding about not being on a snake jihad, particularly for the non-venomous kinds. I don't want anything to do with venomous snakes being around one's home, especially where they could run into children.

I've heard of a couple if folks in Middle TN. dying from copperhead bites several years ago.

As many brown recluses as I've killed in my home, barn and sheds over the years, I imagine that I've been bitten enough times to be immune. But I am not going to test it.

They kill and eat venomous snakes? Really? That's crazy. I admittedly don't know much about snakes, but I've learned a lot in this thread.
they really do kick A on vermin. A few years ago I helped my bro in law put in an AC unit in my upstairs. We had to run duct work into the attic so we were up in there messing around. I came outside to take a break and saw a king snake coming down the wall of the house from the louvres. We ran him out. Anyway, within days I began to hear mice or squirrels in the attic. Later I think he came back because I didn’t have a problem anymore. Of course no way in HALE I told the wife about that

Has anyone ever eaten cooked snake meat. I hear it tastes like chicken. I wouldn't mind trying some.
Just don't tell me what it is.

Killed, skinned, and cooked a rattlesnake while in SERE. It tasted okay, but I was pretty hungry. Not much meat on it either, just thin strips.

Rabbit on the other hand, better than any other white meat I’ve had. I’d order it before chicken at a restaurant.

What's this? We saw it fall from the top of the tree through our living room window. It was fairly large for an East TN snake.

Caught a rat snake in my pool skimmer this weekend. Thought the kids would freak out. Since I was calm they stayed calm.

I love catching these little guys in the yard. Completely harmless and they eat insects and slugs that will destroy small plants near your house.

In FL we have these ring neck snakes which are tiny but they are cool looking: Not my hand!

Yep, nice little Brown. We've caught two this spring already. People think they are babies, but they only get about 12" or so fully grown.

The best thing to do should you come across a poisonous snake is call your local snake-handling church. Not only will the Pastor come get it, but he will pay you for it. The only thing you will have to do is "guard" the snake until the Pastor arrives.....easy money!

LOL

speaking of snakes... When I was a kid I used to see green snakes. I haven't seen one of those in a very long time. Anyone seeing green snakes these days?
