Snowing in Knoxville now

Back when the national championship was decided by the whims and biases of the media, it was a favorite excuse by fans of the northern schools that they'd have more success against SEC teams if the games weren't played in places where the weather was so nice. If they could just play us in the cold and snow, then we'd see. It was a stupid argument then and it's a stupid argument now.

It does "rain" in the south and that is wet too. The southern states have challenges too - unbearable heat and humidity until it cools down to fall weather.

Agree it is a very stupid argument - the weather impacts both teams the same way.

The funny thing about the cold weather narrative, is that osu does not normally play in Columbus on Dec 21st! The possibility of cold weather is not an advantage for osu.

I'd say in general OSU plays more cold weather games that we do. We have cold games here and there, usually one a season. They probably have several per season and many of their players were probably playing more cold weather games in high school than our players were.

All that said unless there's freezing rain and/or huge wind gusts I don't think the weather is going to be a big deal.

I have always found that argument to be interesting. To me, it comes across as the northern teams basically admitting they are not as good and need a built in weather advantage in order to beat southern teams.

Horrible weather with bitter cold and rain and mud didn’t stop Sergeant Alvin York from taking down the Germans during the Meuse Argonne Offensive.

It’s not going to stop the ‘24 Vols in Ohio either.
Really appreciate the educated reference to Alvin York and his miraculous capture of the German forces! Sarge York should get all the recognition and respect, especially in Tennessee, he deserves!
