So, a topic came up at work

I like a lot of their stuff, but I'm far from a huge fan. There are a lot of Foo fans out there, and they packed Wembley (capacity 90,000) a few years ago (2008). I think they would come as close as any current group - but they wouldn't sellout Neyland in that short time frame.

The concert jimmy Paige and John Paul Jones were at? If that was known ahead of time, then I bet a lot of those ticket sales were to see them.

I wasn't aware that Paige/JPJ were a part of that concert - if they were, no wonder they packed that place to the rafters, haha.

What's with all the acdc talk? I seen them in '97 at TBA and there were empty seats and tickets were on sale months in advance.

Just want to add that I think the Stones come the closest to being able to pull it off.

Strange no one mentioned Phish.

In the right situation, Phish could sell it out. Probably have to a reunion show after being off the road for a few years. They probably couldn't do it during a normal tour.

Or, they could hold one of their big festivals there and sell it out.

They came out for an encore and played a couple songs with the Foo. Dave Grohl moved over to drums and let Paige take over at guitar/vocals. It was pretty awesome, but I'm not sure if they had announced they would be there.

(*I started it*)

Situation: A band/performer (not a group of performers, not a tour, etc) announces a stadium concert. There's a catch, though. It's that night, less than 18 hours from the time of announcement. I was using Neyland Stadium as the arena (capacity: 107,455 IIRC).

In the right situation, Phish could sell it out. Probably have to a reunion show after being off the road for a few years.

Think that is what would disqualify Phish, their crowd would way more advance notice to mobilize and converge.

I'd kill to see Paul and Ringo do a concert together. I think they might be able to do it.

AC/DC could definitely do it. Good following and they don't tour often. Several venues for the Black Ice tour sold out in minutes.
