So Allison Gorman just knocked on my door.

Or we could start by asking questions and hearing answers instead of hiding behind tribal bull **** for a change.

I do like someone who will look you in the eye and tell you what they believe.
A vote for her is a vote for bigger government, more state spending, and bans on certain types of firearms. Even if she didn't directly tell you that she will press for such issues in Nashville, she will damn sure vote for any bill her tribe comes up with. Just look at how the dems hold a unite front against anything major the republicans come up with in Washington. They are more united than the republicans for sure except for a couple of individuals that have left the party like Manchin.

So again, specifically….what has she said that you oppose.
Not a buzzword or her political party, what makes her bad for Tennessee?

I hadn’t heard of her until this thread so I looked up her campaign website and read her policy points. Those 4-5 little buzzwordy blogs with out a single hard policy were the most substantial information about her on the entire site. IMO when candidates hide behind catch phrases and buzzwords they’re afraid to let you know their real intentions.

National guard to the southern border.
Lol
Ok.

I'm totally fine with sending the National Guard to the border, but in reality the most simple answer is right in front of our faces, though no one has the ba!!s to do it. Cut them off from the money. No hotels, no monetary benefits, no phones, no nothing....that includes the ones already here too. The river of immigrants slow to a trickle then and can be easily dealt with by border security. Create an instant check system for foreigners seeking work permits. We have to have some migrant labor here for the agriculture, service, and construction industries. It's an absolute must. All you need is an app with thumbprint verification that anyone can download to their phones. Easy peasy.

Bingo
That’s what I was getting at exactly.
Her website is put together by the party. I took one look at that and said nope. I was lucky enough that she’s doing the grass routes thing and knocked on my door. I asked questions, hard ones and was shocked by some of the answers. Others I didn’t like but it struck me that we’ve become so tribal that we have no idea what our candidates actually believe.
The point of this was to see if the responses would reflect the person I met. So far….not so much

That could be why she’s going face to face with voters in her district

That’s the thing with politicians, who exactly was the person you met? Was she the real Allison or was she just a good actor that played to her audience? You.

ok
But she’s running for the state house.
Not a federal election so let’s stay there.
I asked questions, difficult ones, and she answered them. Real answers, not the buzzwords that appear on press releases.

I find it interesting that so far this has gone exactly as I expected.
You provided no context to the questions you asked, nor the answers she gave. you are playing a little gotcha game as people are bringing up points you probably addressed with her, without actually giving her answers which apparently satisfied you. you are giving off this air of: she answered my questions, so I don't have to answer your questions about why I now support her, thus you should support her without any of the specifics it took to convince me.

she gives of GILF vibes.

ok, what did she ACTUALLY tell you?

Welcome to every website for every political figure.

In the 90s I helped 2 former MS 13 gang members become US citizens. It was a 5 year process. They both own construction companies and employ roughly 15 people each. I’ll actually see one of them today on a project.
There is absolutely no way that could be repeated today.

“Closing the border “ is just a BS political talking point that both parties want to maintain so they can divide and pander to their base. Sending the NG to the border is straight BS pandering that will never happen. Neither party is actually concerned about solving the actual problems in the immigration system.

Edit: and thanks for addressing an actual issue brought up by one of the 2 candidates

The real Allison has never run for or been a politician before now. Her husband is a pharmaceutical rep and she was a stay at home mother till her 3 kids were grown. I’d never met her before but know her husband form years ago when I worked part time as a pharmaceutical rep for insurance.

Her opponent is a real estate agent who lives up the street from me.

My point in all this is most people have no idea about the people they vote for. Could be the reason we’re in the shape we’re in as a country.

It's really hard to get close to these people unless they are republican and have a secret service detail.

And I asked if anyone in this district had an opinion so that no context would be needed.

I’m not interested in writing a book in every post to bring outsiders up to speed.
Your parents could have an interesting conversation with me on this as could you if you had not lived elsewhere for the last few years.

I find you to be more informed that most beyond talking points.

Where are you on the for profit prison system?

If she have any answers contradictory to her website, did you ask her why her answer is different,?

Go to hell. I’ve been a member of Volnation 5 years longer than you, and I’ve been posting in the PF for years. I used to actually enjoy your posts. Now, I’m starting to think maybe you’re just a pretentious, self-absorbed ass.

Vote for the self-described progressive. You deserve what you get.
Total Dick move on his part.

completely against it. one of the few things I would support a federal ban on. but even at the state/local level completely against it.

the worst part isn't that they make a profit from having Americans in jail. the worst part is they make even more of a profit if the contracted government doesn't keep the occupancy rate up above a certain percentage.

my parents don't live there either. they have moved back to Bama.

I agree that in the vast majority of the cases we have no idea who we're voting for, the real person. If you like her, vote for her. I wouldn't because there is nothing she could tell me face to face that could counter what is on her website so in my mind she'd be flat out lying to someone or everyone if she tried.

I never knew there was a homoerotic thread on VN.

it was a challenge in the Friday weigh in Pub thread. Slice wanted shirtless pics of all the dudes for his birthday. he framed it as a challenge. technically I failed the challenge as I had gained weight from when it was started, but I am a man of my word.
