So are we putting all of our eggs in the Aaron Medley basket?

You shouldn't be. Darr has plenty of leg. He will come around this year.

I hope you are right. It seems like he had a good spring. I want to get to the point when I don't get nervous everytime the Vols punt or field a punt,

I posted Darr's high school stats on here many months ago . He has a lot of leg, but I said that his ball drop looked out of whack, and that he didn't get the nose of the football up, which led to short kicks. I figured that somebody would notice that and help him. I think that either he, or a coach, or someone has figured that out.

I worked with his dad who is a paramedic and not once did I ever see him get rattled during all the high stress calls and situations. So if Aaron inherits that trait from his dad we will be fine. Aaron is a fine young man but lets face it being a kicker is tough. He has a cannon of a leg so that is not an issue.. It will be the mental aspect as is the case with most kickers. I am biased I know but I am hoping and praying that the young man does well. His dad has helped save countless lives with little appreciation and the rigors of the job are starting to wear on his body. So, I hope Aaron has a stellar career at UT then hopefully the NFL so he can take care of his family.

Aaron has nailed a 65 yarder in the rain before and I am anxious to see what he can do once he as been in the strength and conditioning program for a year. If he can blast it through the end zone on kick offs every-time that will be a huge weapon. We haven't had that for years. He also punts but its not his strongest area by no means. Aaron has also been working with James Wilhoit for a long time so he has a good mentor. If I am not mistaken Aaron will wear Wilhoit's old number also. I think it will take him a little bit to adjust to kicking in front of 100k people but after the first couple games he will be fine. I know I would be a nervous wreck going from kicking in front of a small high school crowd to the confines of Neyland Stadium. I don't care who you are that is a big adjustment.

Also, Bullock isn't bad. He broke his leg (thanks, Dooley) and got recruited over. Broadus has proven himself sufficient in a pinch. I'm not worried about our kicking game at all until they give me a reason to be.

CBJ takes time at the end of practice just for the kicking game. He has the entire team knelt down on the sideline screaming at the kicker while he (coach) is standing right next to the kicker also yelling at him with loud, banging and sirens playing on the PA. He makes them practice under the most stressful, intense conditions... That's how Palardy got better.

Palardy got better because he got fully healthy more than anything else. People forget about his injuries throughout dooley's years too.

Because I've heard nothing about our place kickers.

Medley has a boot, I saw the video where he kicked the 65 yard field goal, but it's terrifying thinking we're putting this much stock into a true freshman.

In order for us to better than 6-6 this year, we have to put a lot of stock in a lot of true freshmen.

How did Dooley break Bullock's leg?

It's not a big deal for FR to handle kicking duties. John Becksvoort, Jeff Hall, Alex Walls, and James Wilhoit all started as FR at UT and all had great careers for UT.

Well stated, I can remember some terrific freshmen kickers in the past

It was a FG protection drill. I'm not going to go into specifics of how it happened, but it isn't an injury that should have occurred.
Did it happen to every kicker that Dooley ever coached, or was it just a freak accident?
