a total of ONE PLAYER out of Memphis was signed in this early period. Vols signed Radarius Jackson and that‘s it (believe State signed a kid out of Bartlett). How is this possible? Is coaching and/or academics that bad?

Good question but no friend no. If you look at those schools, they all purge/focus on the Memphis area cause of size, location, and population. Now there is mass talent in Memphis but UT recruits on a national level. Not all schools have that liberty. Sure, UT can't dismiss any in state prospects but we pull from a much much large pool.

Hope that sheds some light, All good.

I believe he was stating that between all the schools listed, only 2 kids from Memphis were signed.

Maybe academic, attitude, down year, not sure why more kids didn't make it....

Memphis is a dumpster fire as a city. Corruption and crime are rampant. Most people that have kids there either move away or send their kids to private school if they are able to. Law enforcement officers are leaving and moving to other areas because of being reprimanded for trying to enforce laws. It's very difficult for a kid in public schools to be successful in anything.

There is a kid playing for Melrose committed to Missouri that’s a baller. They have him playing qb but I think he’s probably gonna play rb at the next level

Correct! I have a cousin who is a detective there. You hit the nail on the head on all of it as far as I know second handedly. But, you would still think more than 2 players would be signed with a population of about a million people in that county.

Doesn't matter. East Tennesseans hate Memphis anyway, and have low perceptions of kids from there. Maybe recruits know it and avoid the UT.

Wait a minute. There are some good people and proud Vol fans living here. We are just as much Tennesseans as those living in Middle or East Tennessee.
OK

My comment was in reference to the guy saying to give Memphis to Arkansas or Mississippi.

I don’t claim to follow local high school football, so I don’t have a definitive answer to this question. I do know that some of the higher level players get recruited to high schools in other cities.

Tennessee signed Joakim Dodson who is listed as being from Baylor in Chattanooga, but is actually from Memphis.

Not an expert by any means, but looking from the outside it seems the same thing happens in Memphis that happens in a lot of major cities.

Parents who realize their kid has true potential will move out to a suburb or surrounding town and commute to get the better high school program.

I live in a suburb of Memphis.
And yes, people than can afford it either move to the burbs or send their kids to private school. But I also grew up in Nashville and it was the same way there.

Crime is certainly worse in Memphis, but it’s really about knowing where not to go. Where I live, about 20 minutes outside the city, feels very similar to the suburbs in Nashville and has little crime and some of the best public schools in the state.

There’s a lot of issues in Memphis, but it is misunderstood by people who havent lived here.
