So glad it wasn't Gruden

Bcarter is being the very thing he's condemning people for. So what people wanted it to be Gruden. So what people are mad it wasn't. So what people are pissed at hart for supposedly screwing it up. Personally, I believe something happend between Gruden and Tennessee but someone got in the way. Bcarter trying to be this wise, sensible vol fan all of a sudden is laughable considering the pro grudencomments he made. Just keep being a complete douche bag while choking on some Cbj.
He is the one that got Grudenites a bad name.

Then he jumped ship.

Jim Haslam,Manning, and other booster/former players had pooled the money together and had a verbal agreement from Gruden to be the next coach. This was done way before Dooley was let go.

Hart never wanted Gruden, as Hart would have had very little to no control over the football program. He fired Dooley earlier than he was supposed too, which put the final negotiations in super fast mode.
The assistant pay was the only thing never finalized.
Negotiations were still going on while Hart was "interviewing" Gundy and Strong. If you think Strong didn't want the job you are mistaken. Would you take a job when you didn't have the boosters backing?

Payton Manning called Butch Jones four days before his hiring and told him he should take the Colorado job.
Jones said this himself. He wondered why Peyton wasn't asking him about the UT job.
Your guess is as good as mine about how it finally fell through... but the deal was all but done at one point.

FYP

As for Manning calling CBJ about CO the simplest explanation is someone at the University in the state in which Manning now lives asked him to shoot a text message. They wanted CBJ bad and were pulling out all the stops which included asking the high profile QB who plays in the state capital to put in a good word. There is nothing more to read into it.

Your post implies that Gruden wantes to come here and Tennessee said no. Do tou really believe that? If Gruden wanted the job he would have taken it. He didn't, so Tennessee got rhe best coach available. I don't understand some if the anger. Did you guys want to just promote Chaney?

After watching UT with these position hires for Jones i dont think UT was even in the same universe as far as money for Gruden and his "All Star" staff so no i dont think Gruden would have taken the job just because he wanted it. You have to spend money to make money! I couldnt imagine the millions and millions the school would have made even before the O&W game on merchandise.

Untill they pony up for a big time hire and staff im afraid were goin to be stuck in this rut for a long time!
