Sorry to nitpick but KSU would be 9-4 at that point, unless you're saying they beat TCU in the Big 12 Championship. In that case, they'd be 10-3.I think if Tennessee is left out of the Playoffs the Sugar Bowl will be a matchup of 11-1 Tennessee and 9-3 Kansas State.
Yeah the last time a Sugar Bowl team had that mediocre a record i believe was Notre Dame in 1991 when they were 8-3 going against a 10-1 Florida team who they beat.Sorry to nitpick but KSU would be 9-4 at that point, unless you're saying they beat TCU in the Big 12 Championship. In that case, they'd be 10-3.
That brings up another point.... if KSU loses to TCU in the Big 12 Championship and finishes 9-4, would Oklahoma State jump them in the rankings?
No, I briefly forgot that KSU beat Ok State 48-0. Ewww and I just saw where Oklahoma is favored by 7.5 against Ok State this weekend. The Big 12 is may only have two teams ranked at the end of the season. Crazy that a 4-loss team may end up playing in the Sugar Bowl.
If Clemson goes to the Playoffs i think North Carolina plays Alabama in the Orange Bowl.I think Clemson is pretty much locked into the Orange, yes. As it stands now, it would be vs Bama. If 2 SEC schools get in the playoff, then Bama could slide up as far as the Sugar or Cotton (depending on how far the committee drops LSU.
This isn’t true. Sugar has first choice of the highest ranked SEC team which will be usCOTTON BOWL
Sugar Bowl is incorrect. If we win out AND do not rise into the top four teams, we would be going to the Cotton Bowl. This year's College Football Playoff Committee non-playoff bowl game is the Cotton. This will be a matchup of the fifth and sixth ranked teams. The link @WillisWG provided lays this out.
That makes more sense. Hopefully it's Peach or Fiesta anyway! Go Vols! That is not correct. The Cotton Bowl is filled after the contract bowls are filled. Its in the bottom of that link.
4) How does the CFP selection process work in 2022-23?
The CFP Selection Committee ranks the top 25 teams and selects the four teams to participate in the semifinal games (Fiesta and Peach). Then, after the contract bowls (Sugar, Rose and Orange) are filled based on conference agreements, the Committee will assign teams to fill the remaining access bowls (Cotton).
Sugar Bowl gets the highest "non-playoff" SEC team. Assuming we win our last two and then get the royal shaft from the committee, the farthest we fall is the Sugar.
Would be interesting to see the Milton and Squirrel connection get started in the Sugar Bowl…
Just sayin some people will need to mentally prepare for this possibility, bc it’s possible if we don’t make the CFP
I’m with you on that. I do expect some to get upset about opt outs if we do get screwed out of the CFP.And I will be on record early by saying more power to them. Hooker is obviously going in the draft, but if Tillman and Hyatt declare and don't want to risk injury, I don't blame any of them one bit if they opt out of a bowl game. Tillman especially who has been battling the injury all year. He doesn't need a setback heading into draft prep.
I truly believe it's BVS that has people thinking there's any way the loser of OSU/Michigan gets in.... the conference is just so soft after those two. The loser will have zero quality wins.Definitely don't want to get the shaft from the committee, but my BVS says I need to prepare for that possibility lol.
Absolutely some will lose their minds. If it were my son (especially one that had battled injuries), I don't know that I wouldn't advise him to sit. It's more important for the skill kids where .15 off a 40 time could mean the difference in a 2 round swing. If Tillman declares, he needs to be in peak condition for the combine. Hyatt has played his way into the 1st round of several mocks, so I'd hate to see him lose that opportunity due to a freak injury.I’m with you on that. I do expect some to get upset about opt outs if we do get screwed out of the CFP.
Agree. I think the bias for those 2 is so great that they could get in. I think the only way they get in is if it is 1.UGA 2. winner 3. Vols 4. loser. I think that a lot of things have to fall perfectly for that to happen. TCU/USC/Clemson lose...that leaves those 4 teams as the only 1 loss teams left.I truly believe it's BVS that has people thinking there's any way the loser of OSU/Michigan gets in.... the conference is just so soft after those two.
