All season long, some people here have said Meyer couldn't win in the SEC. That he was a gimmick. Well, even without his main offensive philosophy, he's won the SEC Title.

We still don't know if the spread option will have longterm success in the SEC. However, we need to give Urban Meyer some quiet respect and kudos. He just won the SEC in his 2nd season.

I guess Meyer v/s Tressel would be a great coaching matchup since they both turned their programs around.

We had the worst defense we've had in a long while and UGA had easily the worst year in the Richt era. Pair that up with lucky wins against USCe and it shouldn't be such a surprise. Let's call it "the perfect storm".

I'll admit I was skeptical... like you mentioned, the most impressive thing is that he managed to win it with Leak at QB.

Congratulations to Florida.

UF stands to lose a lot of guys on defense if many of their Jr. starters go to the NFL.

Meyer is a pretty impressive recruiter, no one has seen what he can do with the talent he recruited. He had the no. 1 class last year. He's playing now mostly with zook's players. pretty scary thought.

Congrats to meyer...only time will answer everyones questions about his offense. I still think it's pretty mickey mouse at times and will end up shooting him in the foot when he tries to go all out next year.

I thought all along he would do well... A lot of people here disagreed with me, saying a mid-major coach couldn't have success in the SEC.

Well, he did. Tebow will be worked in next year, and Meyer's offense should just about be in full effect. We'll see how it goes.

Florida and Urban Meyer deserve all the credit in the word.

That being said . . . and I might get killed for this . . . That fake punt from his own 10 yard line might have been one of the most stupid playcalls I've seen in my entire life.

Zook had some great athletes on the team. He is quite the recruiter. He's even getting some good players to come to Champagne.

That whole 4 or 5 minute sequence was nuts... the fake punt that deep in your own territory, getting stopped again, letting the play clock wind down, using the last timeout, punting, Arkansas fumbling the punt inside their own 5, TD UF...

I agree with you. Urban seemed to be in meltdown mode right before that idiotic muffed punt by Arkansas. But, having said that, you have to give him credit for winning the SEC.

That's the doubt I've always had with Meyer. I don't really doubt his offense as much as some of the strategic decisions he makes at times. I guess in the end it doesn't matter though as long as you win.

I am concerned that we will have a very hard time stopping the spread next year with Teblow at the Q and that speed on the outside. Its going to be hard to stop Teblows off tackle with 5 wides.

We're going to have to get REAL physical REAL fast to blow up that scheme. We need some real headhunters out there next year.

That spread will no doubt cause some headaches, but Tebow also has to prove that he is able to handle throwing against an SEC defense. Fortunately or unfortunately, we'll be the guinea pig.

Tebow has to show that he can affectively pass the ball before I will chalk him up as a huge weapon. It's pretty easy to run the ball when you don't get hit until 5 yards down the field. Their defense most likely won't shut us down as easily as this year either. Our defense will also be wholy improved as well.

VA I think you are right. I had that realization as the clock ticked down tonight. For all the crap I talked about Meyer, maybe he is the real deal ... we will see.

One of the reasons I think we have that attitude toward him is that he doesn't look much like a coach. In the way that they talk about presidential candidates looking "presidential" or not.

Florida has been one lucky team this year, that's all I'm going to say. Don't get me wrong, they're a good squad, but they're lucky as can be.

UT 1998 had some luck. Ohio State 2002 had all kinds of luck. Even Texas and USC lately have had luck. Luck is just part of it. If you play crappy enough, no amount of luck can help you. Good teams take advantage of their luck. Ask Al Wilson and Travis Henry.

I'm certainly aware that luck is part of it, I'm just saying that UF had it this year. Thanks for the history lesson though.. It was a nice thought.

They have definitely been lucky, but as we Vols fans can attest ... you have to have a little (or maybe a lot) of luck to win a championship.
