That depends on how you look at it. We are better off on offense. But we fell off a cliff on defense. Look, I agree. We are, somewhat, better off, roster wise. But we are not that much better off.:peace2:

I remember when people were saying that Gruden was our man before the Kentucky game. The only reason we didnt announce it then was to save from bad publicity. Those were the days!!:banghead2:

That's what fans do. We cheer when they win and cry when they lose. We say things like I hope we win and we get a coach b/c we are the fans that love the game and all that comes with it. In the 90's I had the most fun with the vols. the last few years my heart has gotten broken. Still a vols always a vol.

Get real it has nothing to do with Kiffin. It is the leaders of UT. Cheek and Hart. The football program has to change like the rest of the country. Cheek wants UT to be a Ivy league school. Coaches know they can not recruit the right kids to win here. And i believe Hart will not give the coach that much control. I believe Hart has to be in control. He will keep us at the bottom of the SEC. I sure hope the big $$$$$ guys for UT gets involved and hires a coach or we are in trouble.:mf_surrender::angry:

there's just way too much tradition for us to be down forever. I'll never cheer for anyone else. but dang, it has gotten pretty bad.

I really don't think this administration has any idea about the fans' disapproval of this hiring situation thus far...

We need to DEMAND a GREAT coach and they need to MAKE IT HAPPEN!!

Arkansas fan here. I haven't read all the threads but just curious WTH is wrong with your AD and admin? Why are they not going after Petrino or Davis? You could get them for very cheap and they are guaranteed to turn your program around. I promise you guys that the other eastern division coaches want no part of either of them given a program of your stature.

You do realize you guys are down to up and comers like Taggert and the like?

Honestly I don't want either Petrino or Davis in the SEC and that is only because we will have to play them. I would much rather you guys hire a Taggart but as a fan from another school I know what you are going through.

Hope you guys get a good coach.

This IS the truth nobody wants to talk about. Neyland stadium is like the curse of the Bambino in Boston except its Fulmer instead of Babe Ruth. The Fulmer Curse is alive and kicking and just might be for some years. I would jettison Cheek/ Gator and Hart/ Bammer, hire PF as AD and set things right in the world.

if he improved the program so much, why has it been such a struggle to get someone to take the job

In hindsight, Coach Fulmer's last four years look somewhat better than these past four years. Bringing him back, though, would be a big mistake. Just imagine, if he were to have a 5-7 season next year with a new quarterback and a suspect defense. He would begin 2014 on the hot seat and could end up being fired twice.

If that were to happen, we might as well drop football.

Its hard to believe we are really this bad off. I knew it was going to be rough, but are we really in that bad of shape.

Would we be better off letting Chaney stay as an interim?

It may have been addressed earlier, but to answer the OP's question, Greg Roman would take the job.

If not.....you're looking at a scenario where keeping Chaney is the best option.
