Has losses to Memphis, Citadel, Toledo and overtime wins against Jacksonville St, FAU and Ga Southern.... I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the conference isn't great.

Uncertainty at 3 East schools hopefully helps the Vols going forward

Tbh, every school in the East has varying degrees of uncertainty outside of Gainesville and Knoxnille.

There is a ton of mediocrity in the SEC right now... and I am including Tennessee in that as well. I do, however, think that Tennessee is at least headed in the right direction unlike Missouri, Auburn and South Carolina.

Worst it has been in years. Bama is head and shoulders above the rest which is decent to terrible.

This has been known for awhile. We have seen South Carolina, Missouri, and now Florida teams win 10+ in a season and we know they werent very good.

It's one of the reasons we've all been going nuts is because you didnt2 have to be good to have a good record.

All year ive been imagining life in this division with an actual roster

After seeing some of the scores over the past couple weeks, it appears that the SEC West has weak defenses (excluding bama) and the SEC East has weak offenses (excluding, well, no one).

Some of you guys may know I'm not a fan of Florida and how they schedule OCC games. They rarely play outside of Florida for OCC games and I can't remember the last time they played a OCC game outside the eastern time zone. Of course given this weekend, maybe they have enough competition in Florida given FAU. Of course we should limit any "titles" they achieve to the status of "State Championship" you know sort of like in high school.

I'm not normally one to take up for the gators, but their annual series with FSU equals it out. One legit OOC game and 3 "cupcakes". Same as everyone else.

The other problem is financial. We need 7 home games every year to make it work. So home-and-home trades don't work for us and that's the big boys.

I'll actually go out on a further limb and say it's still the best. Conference cannabilized itself, no one cares about late season guarantee games.

1. SEC
2. Big 12
3. B1G
4. P12
5. ACC

The last time that Florida played an out of conference regular season game outside of the state of Florida was Syracuse in 1991 and they lost badly 38-21. It kept them out of contention for the national championship that year because they won every other regular season game. Spurrier hated that. He also didn't want them to resume their regular season series with Miami again (which had been discontinued by Florida). The last time that Florida played an out of conference regular season game outside of the eastern time zone was Memphis in 1989, prior to that it was USC in 1983. Of course they do play Florida St every year and they have even resumed playing home and home series with Miami off and on since Spurrier left but it's still a very insular form of scheduling nevertheless.

Since 1980, how many times has Tennessee or Oregon played a non-conference opponent who won the national title, played in the national title game or the college football playoff?

Florida has played such an opponent 11 times. Not even bothering to include times the opponent was in the top 5 or played in BCS level bowl, etc.

One out of every three years, Florida has a non-conference opponent who is the national champion or runner up/playoff partipant. And before anyone says anything, it happened 3 times in the 80's, 4 times in the 90's, 2 times in the 00's, and twice so far in the 10's.

And unlike when you schedule your worthy adversaries, you don't hate them....they don't hate you.

The atmosphere at a Florida-Florida State, Florida-Miami game is just a tad bit different.

I am always shocked at the lack of respect this seems to get from the Tennessee fan base. Tennessee has had a damn difficult time beating Florida over the years, you'd think people would acknowledge the quality of a program that has 14 wins over Florida since 1990 with 3 national titles.

In addition, Spurrier not wanting to renew the series with Miami is incorrect. It's actually something Spurrier very much wanted to do. Then, the SEC expanded with Arkansas and South Carolina and went to an 8 game conference schedule and that was no longer going to happen.

I can't for the life of me figure out why? Hmmm...

In honor of Florida-Florida State week, I'll share a story that may bring some understanding here.

In 1991, Florida won its 1st official SEC title. The team has some sort of informal post season gathering. Spurrier asks players to share their favorite memories of the season and best win with the team. One by one, they give some sort of story about the FSU game and to a man say FSU was their favorite game. At some point, Spurrier stopped the thing. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. He said.....fellas, we are champs. 1st time ever. No one thought beating Bama 35-0? None of y'all enjoyed getting payback on Tennessee the most? None of you all cherished clobbering Georgia above all? We've beaten FSU before, we've never won the SEC before. After thinking it over, a couple of captains looked at one another and looked back at Spurrier and said.....FSU.

Just off the top of my head, I remember Colorado in 1990 (we tied them 31-31 in the Pigskin Classic) and they won a share of the national championship. There was also Miami in 2002 who lost to Ohio State (they drilled both of us that year) and of course Oregon in 2010 who lost to Auburn.

By the way, my favorite part of Florida's 1991 season was watching your defense try to tackle Jerome Bettis in the Sugar Bowl. :dance2:

Can't you play a home and home and make sure that you play it at home when you play at FSU? That would be 7 home games.

He wasn't the only one. Was Rickey Waters in that game, too?

Georgia in Jax is issue #1.

Issue # 2 is why should Florida go out of its way to have two good OOC opponents.

For ***** and giggles?
