So, what do we know about our new S&C coach?

Does anybody remember Stallworth getting caught from behind against Memphis his freshman or soph year?

I don't know what happened that offseason, but something did. From then on, no one could catch him.

Because Memphis couldn't have simply had a faster player.

Has been a part of 10 teams that played in bowl games, and four that won conference titles

Spent last three years at Cincinnati as the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Performance and Director of Football strength and conditioning at the University of Cincinnati

Spent three years at Central Michigan University (2007-09) where he oversaw and directed the strength and conditioning efforts for all 16 CMU varsity athletic programs

Certified strength and conditioning coach by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Association and a certified speed and explosion specialist by the National Association of Speed and Explosion

Coached seven Strength and Conditioning All-Americans, eight football All-Americans and more than 80 football players either drafted or signed as free agents by the NFL
In 2009, recognized as a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach, the highest honor presented in the field, by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA)

Two CMU student-athletes--football player Brian Brunner and softball player Ali Pettit--earned Strength and Conditioning All-America honors under his tutelage in 2009

Spent five years working at Eastern Michigan University as the head strength and conditioning coach from 2002-06

Worked at West Virginia for seven seasons from 1994-2002

Started as a graduate assistant in 1994 before being named assistant strength and conditioning coordinator in May 1995. Working with all 22 varsity sports and a football team that went to five straight bowl games and the men's basketball team that advanced to the NCAA and National Invitational Tournaments

Began career as an undergraduate at West Virginia Tech, as student assistant on both the strength and conditioning staff and football coaching staff

Named head strength and conditioning coach at his alma mater and served as an assistant on the football staff, coaching defensive linemen and special teams in 1992 and 1993

Earned a bachelor of arts degree in physical education from West Virginia Institute of Technology in 1992 and a master of science degree in physical education from West Virginia University in 1995

So, in other words, he will develop the talent given and improve them. Speed can only be increased so much, but is a God-given (or whatever you believe in) talent.

The "We Can Win Games Because Our Strength Coach Is A Badass!" threads never get old. Who's got a Youtube video of the new guy yelling at players over a heavy metal soundtrack?

Did you know Calvin Johnson, T.O. and Vernon Davis all use resistant band? Just to name a few get out of here with it won't work in the SEC.

Hah-hah! Joke's on you! You just unwittingly proved that guy's post!

Calvin Johnson: ACC
Terrel Owens: FCS School (Chattanooga no less!)
Vernon Davis: ACC

All of those guys used resistance bands and none of those guys could cut it in the SEC! Which we all know is better than any other League of Football in the Nation. Therefore, Lawson can't cut it in the SEC because those guys used resistance bands and they couldn't cut it in the SEC.

Here's an idea, lets start recruiting big, strong and fast athletes. The best S&C coach is good recruiting, period.

Back when we were dominant, we were less a team and more like a gang. We used to make QB's quit. It was very rare a QB made it through a whole game. When is the last time a player has gotten pissed at practice, went to the locker room, came back out with a mop handle and tried to kill a teammate? (Hanesworth) The quickest way to win a NC...have Oregon's drug testing policy (O. Smith)...imo. :)

That's proof that Haynesworth is a psycho with anger management issues and a locker room poison (and knew he wasn't as tough as Will Ofenheusle). This bit of folklore is not a shining moment we want emulated. You leave the practice field, you leave whatever beef you have with a teammate that's outperforming you on. Fine to use it as motivation tomorrow or in the weight room, assault with a weapon, not so much.

That IS effort imo, I want players that cant stand losing. Many times this year I prayed for Hanesworth to run on to the field with a mop handle and take out Byron Moore. We need more thugs, period.

1 - Flipping tractor tires is a great exercise, if you get your hips down low and fire up with that weight it can help build explosiveness. 2- Using pics of our players as they got big this year was simply a motivational tool and should in no way be used as proof that coach mac was somehow training for size not football (saw that on a similar thread) 3 - Our defense being bad is not proof that we were slow because of S&C. If you remember the offense was pretty good working in the same program. :twocents:

My wife uses resistance bands. 😏 I'll stick with squats and sprints. Thanks though and goodnight! GBO

One more point. Who was the more physical team when we played Cincinnati in 2011? Easily we were.

From watching some of UC's Weight room videos it looks like Lawson puts a lot of emphasis on resistance bands......because that works in the SEC! Not so much. But hey maybe we need to work on speed instead of throwing around tractor tires. We looked slow last year.

We were slow last year. DBs had a tough time getting to the ball, RBs had a tough time pulling away in the open field, and the LBs had a tough time making tackle at the line of scrimmage. I think the new S&C coach will be similar to Stuckey in that he wants the workout to develop strength, speed and endurance. I noticed that UC played stronger in the 4th quarter than their opponents. I think we will progress and be a stronger and faster team next season.

That is far from the truth man you can develop fast twitch. You won't develop enough to go from a 5.0 40 to a 4.4 40 but I have seen people go from 5.0 to a 4.8. You can develop explosion. Your trainer lied to you man. You don't train for both heavy slow lifting builds bulk. Explosive lifting like snatches and power cleans do improve explosion. If you can't train for speed all that bs about having heart and playing with heart is even more bs cause it has no scientific basis

From the posts, you can tell those who know nothing about strength and condition workouts. The S&C coaches at LSU and USC, for example, use a technique similar to the one used by Davis. I think those teams were pretty strong and fast. Them most important issue is recruiting athletics who are already fast and strong and improve from there.

Lets see now. They can star in the NFL but can not play in the SEC. Real smart.

I'm fine with a guy being fired up and hard on his team mates, but you have a serious lack of knowledge about signs of mental health and team dynamics if you you think hunting down your own team mate with a weapon is a sign of effort. There is a big difference between being intense and this is one of many examples of Haynesworth being way over the line.

Calling this "effort" is like calling a Pilot parking lot robbery a team building exercise.
