So when we fire Pearl who should we hire?

I thought someone would be crazy to get rid of one of the best coaches in SEC. Best coach we may have had since Ray Mears, if not better. Very good recruiter too.

changing style of play is one thing and hasn't helped, but his recent comments that he hasn't instilled discipline and demanded focus might mean that he recognizes the need to stay arms distance and exact everything from the players he can get. He still hasn't done that to date.

Several years ago I would have took 10 or 11 coaches ahead of Buzz. As far as the SEC (except Donavan) his resume is unequaled.

Maybe he is way smarter than we think and we are just getting focused at the right time. Another sweet 16 run with this team would be downright impressive. Although after the UK game I am very impressed with how we have finished.

Not many people, and I never said, that Bruce should be fired. People were disappointed when this team was playing like garbage a couple of weeks ago. Some people on here blow up when someone tries to criticize our basketball team but a few weeks ago after blow out losses to ole miss and Kentucky the criticism was deserved. Yes it’s easy to come out now and say haha look at you fools who criticized Bruce and the gang but a couple of weeks ago they way the team was playing it was deserved. I AM BY NO MEANS SAYING BRUCE PEARL SHOULD BE FIRED OR SHOULD GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, LET ME SAY THAT AGAIN FOR EVERYBODY THAT DID NOT UNDERSTAND I DO NOT THINK BRUCE PERAL SHOULD BE FIRED OR LET GO.....

Sorry for the epic bump. But I just wanted to remind everyone, and also show people that haven't been on this board long that even Bruce Pearl, yes, the legend had his own "lets faarrr him" threads.

Looking back at this 2008-2009 season I remember a lot of fans were down on CBP. He just got off a season of making it to the sweet 16 and lost to Louisville in a very ugly game. We had just landed a top 10 recruiting class with Wooldrige, Hopson, etc. we were returning a lot of talent, JP, Chism, Tyler Smith, etc and we were ranked top 25 preseason and expectations were high similar to this year.

They started the season out beating 3 cupcakes then went on to the old spice challenge, where they beat Siena, Georgetown (Tatum's best game as a vol), then lost to Gonzaga. Then they went on the road and got beat by Temple 88-72. This is when our fans started making dumb threads like this one and stated questioning Pearl. They said his teams played uninspired, he wouldn't play zone, you know the usual non sense our fans blab about thinking they know more than the coach.

The Vols started that year with 4 OOC losses and entered sec play with Georgia with a win and then the next game Jodie Meeks happened. 54 points I believe? After that game we had posters on here questioning if we were going to make the NIT or play in the CBI, they were starting the usual "fire threads" and finished the regular season 9-6 and made it to the tourney with a first round loss to Okie State.

My point to this bump is to show everyone that our fans have been overreacting and have posted idiotic threads since this board was created, and no matter who the coach was. I understand the frustration with this season because tbh I am just as disappointed with this team as most are because I set my expectations a little too high. But I'm willing to give Martin the rest of the season before I start calling for his head. I'm one of his biggest supporters but if he doesn't make the tourney this year I will want him gone as well. But I'm going to let him coach the rest of this season before I make that judgement, and be rational about it. GBO!

As a fan of the University of Tennessee.
I know Martin's in year three.

He's done nothing but bust out of the NIT
Can he get to the dance? We'll see.

Losses to UTEP and Xavier baffle me,
because it won't help with RPI and a weak SEC.

Now, I will just say very briefly,
That if he misses the Dance completely

Fire his ass, bring Bruce back, and I'll be happy.

I'm in the same boat of firing him, but only of he misses the tourney. But idk about how if feel about getting CBP back...

You know what, I only partly kid about rehiring Pearl. Not even sure he'd want to come back even if he were able to providing that it was possible.

At the end of the day if Martin misses the Dance I will be content if they go out and hire a good coach. That's about all I want really- a good coach, don't care who it is.

Martin still has a chance to prove me wrong (the UT fan in me hopes he does). He could get into the NCAA and go deep, but the only thing that will change my mind is getting past the first round. With the type of talent this team has I just feel that they should be playing better. I don't mind the Wich St loss so much as I did the Xavier and UTEP games. That UTEP game and a weak SEC is gonna come back to haunt us because I think we'll break even or worse against the rest of the quality wins left on our schedule; and the SEC just isn't good enough to help us to help us out late if we hit our stride.

Not sure what he said that can't be proven. But he said he would be in favor of firing Martin if he failed to make the tourney. It is absolutely asinine that everyone has to be labeled something and that if you support the coach and take a wait and see approach, then you must be a Martin lover. He does happen to be the coach at my alma mater, and even though he may have some deficiencies, I am still rooting for him to win. It is just downright silly the things that are stated on this site.
