So where would a win tomorrow rank in TN history?

I'd rank a win today top 5, for sure. I'd rank it after 1. '98 Fiesta Bowl win (because Natty), 2. Bama '95 (41-14 Baby!) and 3. Bama '22 (is that goalpost still in the Tennessee river?). I will never forget any of those games. Ever.

Meh.

Don’t get me wrong, would love the W! BUT. It’s step one. No additional dynasty points for going out in the first round.

Unless you win the Championship, no one will remember you were there.
That's putting the cart before the horse. The Championship game doesn't matter right now, only tonight matters. U complete step 1 first then worry about step 2. If we win, OSU will remember we were there and that's good enough for me.

Anyone who doesn't think this would be a monumental, top-5 win, in the first year of the 12TCFP, after the past 23 years. . .

I'm not sure what to tell you.

This is a loaded question to me. We are combining biggest upsets and biggest wins. For me the top 5 wins were National title games or SEC CG. The next tier would be games that lead to a NC or SEC title. I would have to put 98 Fla in front of your #2 & #3 but your #2 & 3 are for sure top 5. I could be easily convinced to throw 98 Ark in there as well. I'm not sure OSU fans realize how many top 10 matchups we have actually played in.

IMO, It's big because now CFB is a tournament sport like basketball & baseball. This is the equivalent of the Sweet 16 round.

A win would cement UT to the top tier and hopefully a fixture to be in the mix.

lol. This is dumb. If you don’t think the vast majority of TN fans won’t remember we made the playoffs this year then you are insane.

Call it what you like big guy, my point isn't that we wouldn't love to win this game it's that losing in the first round gets you a participation trophy. "We made the playoffs" is awesome, we should all be happy/proud to be here. If we lose, however, it's a footnote we were even there.

As an aside I will be happy with our season, especially given whee we were a few years ago, for a long time. Praying it's the first of many like it.

It's the first time this has ever happened so it will be remembered. CJH will always get credit for getting to the playoffs no matter what happens tonight. This is a new era of college football. This is our greatest team in the new era, until we have another team that goes further than this team. We're still talking about the 2022 team and they weren't a playoff team.

A victory today wouldn't be nearly as big as beating OSU in the 96 Citrus Bowl when they were #4 (we were #5) and they had Heisman winner Eddie George at RB.

Looking back only at the last 20 years, I'd say a victory today would be at least in the top 10... well, maybe top 5, considering that I guess we haven't really had a lot of wins in that time frame, period, much less in the 'historical win' category.

To me, it‘s pretty damn high on the list everything considered…Big Ten team (obviously), Ohio State, on their turf, weather conditions, solidifying program as top tier, trip to Rose Bowl, remain in the hunt for national championship, etc.

IMO, it’s a top five win in school history.
It would be huge! Not sure about top five, but it would make a major statement to beat a talented team on the road after the stupid committee gave us a road game. It would go a long way towards earning respect for the Vols nationally.

If the good guys get it done, I hope our fans tear down a goal post and throw it in the river lmao.

I will say top 5 win all time for sure. I don’t like matchup for us in a night road game against a high quality opponent . . . In what amounts to a “bounce back” game for them.

Having said that . . . For some reason I think IF we can get a win tonight . . . We will bear Oregon in the Rose Bowl and make the semis to play Texas.

I agree with you. I don’t think I’m articulating my point well. I’m not saying this team and season isn’t freakin’ awesome, it is. In the context of OPs question I just don’t see this game as a historically massive game.

We are all die hards that love this team. To be clear, I’m absolutely thrilled at how we’ve preserved this year. It’s been an insane but amazing ride. I hope we beat the hell out of OSU and GBO!

I'll be glad if we win, but rank the game? Maybe 5th best win. Behind the 2022 Bama game, Stumble and fumble Arkansas game, Citrus Bowl OSU game, Dobb Nail Boot game, and the Miracle in South Bend Game.
