So, who are you going to pull

I always figured this is the best way to put it: Give Chavis a tenderloin and he will give you a filet mignon. Give him a cut of shank and he can't make a stew.

We did have a solid defense in '08, but that was preceded by numerous subpar years.

Incorrect.

The number of people coming out of the woodwork pointing to LSU's defense this year as a vindication of Chief has been crazy, but not surprising. He has a dozen+ NFL-ready defenders. He can call defensive schemes off Tecmo Bowl and still win.

Naive and ridiculous...
Go back and look into how many Tennessee players were drafted by the NFL under his watch. Read what those and LSU's (past and) current players say about John Chavis the Man and John Chavis the Coach. Then read what his peers think.

I will root for Alabama's opponent (no matter who it may be). But, I, too, would rather see LSU vs Ok State. We already know how the other story plays out.

Chavis is an above average coach who happens to have top notch talent to work with at LSU. Good to see him doing well.

LSU. I would like to see Chavis get another National Championship ring.

Yeah if he were here. I hate LSU because of our luck with them, Les Miles being an idiot, and "HoneyBadger". I hate Alabama....well it's Alabama

Bama... Yes theyre one of our biggest rivals, but in all honesty, they are prob the most respected program in the SEC and show the most respect than any other program in the SEC.. And for me they arent a hated rival.. Plus I have more respect for them than LSU...

It's a tough one but I choose....Bama! LOL!

Seriously though guys I am afraid we might get beat by the Barners tomorrow! If we win tomorrow then whatever happens I will be fine with.

BTW I so enjoyed the vandy locker room celebration! I showed it to my brother-in-law, who is a big a Vol fan as they come, last night. We died laughing when Dooley said what he said. HA! Vandy fans are loving that!

With the SEC on track to win yet another BCS trophy why not let all the teams outside of the SEC assemble an "all star" team to play the winner of the SEC for a championship game. Then it would be a nice competive game to watch.

Do so.
His defenses were consistently ranked in the Top 3-4 SEC through his tenure.

I already had to take VegasVol to task on this. I'm talking about Fulmer's 7 year slide. Look up stats on Yahoo. 2008 was the only season since '03 that he cracked the top 3 in defense in the conference and he typically finished sixth or worse, averaging in the bottom half of the SEC including '08. He oversaw some really, really bad defenses in that span.

Makes it that much worse considering he has had what, nine or ten players that are in the NFL right now from that time frame. But LSU may have that many drafted off this roster alone.

Again, there's no argument anyone can make that he was a consistently good DC during the back 9 of his career here, unless you want to start fabricating stats like VV did.

As Tennessee's DC Chavis' defenses were ranked in the SEC Top 3 nine times (in 16 yrs) between 1995-2008.
I'll give you 2004-2007, those 4 years were the exception. Adding, the HC has final say, able to override any call---Fulmer was notorious for his interference. More telling, how often do we see his LSU "D" get burned while in the "prevent"? Chief's success came when Fulmer stepped back (as does Miles) and let him execute his game plan. Fact, in the three yrs since Coach Chavis took over as DC, LSU's defense has improved yr-over-yr in (SEC) Total Defense ranking from #11 (2008), #3 (2009), #2 (2010), and oscillating (with Alabama) between #1 & #2 this yr. (2011).
There is no denying Chief's success and overall body of work (over the past 19yrs) or his ability and acumen as a coach.

Chavis is one of the best DC in football right now. Your an idiot if you don't think so. It was clear fullmer had his hands in on the play calling and john couldn't run what he wanted. But he could damn sure coach LB's to!

I'm apparently an idiot. Larry Coker was also the best coach in the history of college football.

It's a LONG SHOT but here's what I'd like to see happen:

# 2 Alabama beat Auburn - Bama remain # 2

#3 Oklahoma St. clobber Oklahoma

I would LOVE Oklahoma St. to JUMP Alabama and play LSU for the Nat'l Championship.

Go Cowboys!!!

Anything that hurts Bama I am for....

3rd and Chavis still rings to loud in my ears to give him any credit.... what makes Chavis seem like a good DC this year is simple TALENT...and LSU is loaded...

If I had the horses he has, even I would look like a good DC
