So, you all were so anxious to get with Nike, huh?

My son's high school basketball team switched from Adidas to Nike this year and half the teams shoes fell apart by midyear. Three the first week. Hope we go back. Most went back to the previous years Adidas that were still holding up well.

Oh yes we were. In the mid eighties I had some white turf shoes with the orange swoosh on them that matched the football teams exactly.

I was going to school at UT in the mid 80's...We were never a Nike school then...Might have worn the shoes but never the jerseys or pants...The uniforms they wore for years were from Realistic...I believe that is the name...With he big R on the jersey...The pants were also from there but they didn't make football shoes so that's why you saw the nike shoes....Nike used to make UT apparel...When they were with sports belle, nike put out some UT stuff....But to my knowledge they never wore Nike uniforms

You sure??.......

"Nike is especially proud to resume our association with the University of Tennessee," Nike sports marketing director Kit Morris said. "We admire their rich tradition and are enthusiastic to begin working once again with Volunteer student-athletes, coaches and programs."

After 18 years apart, the University of Tennessee athletics department will retain NIKE as its official apparel provider on July 1, 2015. The eight-year contract signed this week is valued at roughly $35 million. The school has 17 months remaining on its current contract with adidas.

Tennessee was a “NIKE school” previously but switched to adidas in 1997. Thus, the new contract is a reunion of sorts.

Keywords & phrases: resume, once again, "after 18 years apart", previously, switched, reunion

We once purchased Nike shoes for our football and basketball teams to wear, but they were never a sponsor as Adidas is today. We have never worn a Nike jersey in any team sport.

Cool shoe story bro :salute:

Kinda splitting hairs aren't we? Both UT and Nike put out statements talking about "resuming" our relationship and how we were a "Nike school" prior to switching to Adidas in the late '90s. Apparel contracts between schools and companies like Nike and Adidas have evolved considerably the last decade or 2. UT and Nike say we were a "Nike school" before the recent Adidas contract.... good enough for me.

I don't think it's splitting hairs to classify "buying shoes for some sports" from a company differently than "receiving millions of dollars in cash and free gear" from that company years later, but that's just me.

I am just curious how many cleats anyone saw blowing apart on Bama's 3 out of 4 year national title run? How many of them exploded on the Seminoles last year?

Nike is better than Adidas IMO. Do I think Nike is high quality? Probly not but Nike is the "it" brand. On top of that the players prefer Nike to Adidas, just look at the comments on social media when UT made the announcement. Like it or not, it is what it is.

Everyone can get over it or become fans of another school. We are now a nike school. We will always be Tennessee. GBO

Nike is junk and gained popularity in the 80's with celebrity pimps selling it. Their golf clubs and balls are total trash too. Nike is popular because of two people. Bo Jackson and Michael Jordan.

Hasn't some dude named Tiger done pretty well with Nike?

Nike pays the best to endorse their products. They signed Tiger to a multi-million deal the second he went pro. If it weren't for Tiger there would be no Nike Golf. He won with inferior equipment early on. Nike has gotten better but they are not as good as Ping, Taylormade, Callaway or Titleist. I don't know if Tiger would have won more or less with different equipment but I do believe he could have won with Spalding clubs from Wal-Mart when he had his run. If you remember he put his Titleist driver back in his bag which sort of confirmed Mickelson saying Nike was inferior.

''Well, maybe one,'' Mickelson said. ''He hates that I can fly it past him now. He has a faster swing speed than I do, but he has inferior equipment. Tiger is the only player who is good enough to overcome the equipment he's stuck with.''

When you buy Nike, you're paying for the name

Regardless of personal opinions of anyone here regarding the quality of Nike shoes/gear, switching to Nike will boost recruiting and put more money in the AD coffers.....I'm for both of those.
