Softball: Gabby Sprang

Ok Thanks for that info -- is there a reason why ? They dont get paid for it - I thought Melissa Davins dad said on here, she played in the summer while in college

I don't know the whys on the rule, but it's an NCAA deal. I assume it has something to do with recruiting rules. You can play for teams sponsored by the national team, but not for travel ball teams. Same as AAU in basketball.

College baseball is the only real exception. They have wooden bat leagues like the Cape Cod league that are approved by the NCAA.

Does anybody know if Sprang ended up trying out for the Junior National team? She said in an interview on FloSoftball last fall she was going to but I see on the Junior National roster there are 6 pitchers listed and she isn't on it.

Also see that Barnhill and Gourley are on the Women's National team.

Also see that there is a Men's Fastpitch National team. I'm surprised there are still enough men playing in the US to field a decent National team.

Well, who's going to beat Barnhill and florida next year, as she's only a sophomore, i believe? I'm salty about her because I think she's cheating--but the coaches (ours and others) need to find the brass the raise hell about it. Otherwise, she's just going to keep dominating. I feel like the coaches are really being cowardly.

Coaches at every SEC school have been raising hell about it all year. I don't know how that's "cowardly." Coaches complained about it in literally every game she pitched in SEC play. There were multiple calls to the coordinator of officials and the SEC administrator over softball.

The NCAA is going to have to make it a point of emphasis this coming year or she's going to be allowed to do it for the next two years. I know that several coaches have already made clear that it will be an issue raised big time when the season is over.

Strange that they can't catch Barnhill replanting on literally every pitch but Matty Moss was inexplicably called for a few illegal pitches this year.

Oh and you can bet your rear end that umps catch that player leaving 1B early on a steal attempt.

The SEC doesn't believe in the rulebook if it affects certain teams ie UF, UK(basketball), Bama

This crow hopping by Barnhill is ridiculous....
The announcers go on and on about her pitching prowess, but her crow hopping is not discussed....Her replanting her back foot is obvious.

As long as they let her get away with it, they will continue to dominate.

Crowhop is a tougher call from the home plate ump. Harder to see from that point and also concentrating heavily on balls & strikes. But at this point, there should be someone assigned to watch this. From the 1st base side, it was very obvious. The stepping out of the pitching lane on screw balls is more obvious from the rear.

Seems especially suspect to me when the pitcher has an ERA under 0.50. ??

Did anyone else see the NCAA Softball tweet of a pic of Barnhill. She was pitching illegally in photo. When questioned, they deleted the tweet.

Interesting.

She was doing the same thing last year, and they knew about it then. I hope you are right though, it gives her a blatant advantage.

Why don't one of you with a facebook or twitter account ask Cheri Kempf what she thinks about Barnhill and why she thinks nobody wants to talk about it. She's as qualified as anybody to answer. Star pitcher in college, pros and USA National team. Taught pitching for years. She may be afraid to answer but it's worth a try. I'd ask but I don't have any social media accounts.

Barnhill's crow hopping has a been a serious topic of discussion on the big college softball site all year. Somebody posted a video that clearly shows her replanting--really, hopping to the left a bit on a lot of her throws. There's a consensus that she's doing it but nobody knows why coaches don't complain about it. I mean, as one illegal pitch been called in the playoffs this year? I get the impression nobody wants to deal with it--which is crazy.

The 1st and 3rd Base Umpires are responsible for calling crowhopping and informing the HP umpire

Her crow hopping is beyond ridiculous....

Hope they lose....

Here's the thing, crow hopping has never been called for an illegal pitch that I have seen, ever.

It's how they pitch in the men's game, while by the book it's illegal, it won't be called, and has never been called

Wrong, I have seen it called at Lady Vol Softball games in the past. Its why they call an illegal pitch

Gourley also crowhops. Now you know why Florida's Pitching is so good. Its illegal

The opponents fans in the stands should keep yelling "crow hopping" out until the umpires stop this BS pitching by Florida....This is blatant cheating.

Glad they lost.......
