I will not mention any names, but a current recruit has said that he has spoken with a few current players on the team about Dooley, and they have said "they can't stand Dooley". They don't like his personality and how things are being run, and things like this are being relayed to more than just this recruit I am speaking about.

Now with that being said, this was said by this recruit before the O & W game and before the two recent committs. I watched the O & W game and things looked upbeat to me, so maybe things have changed since then. I have actually liked what I have heard from CDD and hope he can get the ball rolling in the right direction. But this is something that you don't like hearing because it can affect more than one recruit. It also just could be when CDD started he was making sure the current players knew it was his way or the highway which rubbed some players the wrong way, and now they are coming around to him. I was wondering if any of the recruitng guru's had heard anything along these lines?

It's very funny how much people who never played football think they know about the game and the team mentality. You don't always like your coach, but you do hope that when you grow up a bit, you appreciate the type of person he tried to make you.

It's not the coaches job to make the team like him and you don't get more accomplished if they like him. He said it would take time to get the team to trust him. That's much more important.

We have to remember that he's still working with at least 2 other coaches players. Just like he said, it will take time. More than most folks here think or may accept.

and all hell breaks loose from the DD lovers. Just like yesterday when I posted a thread from Volquest to see what people thought, only to take abuse from the Koolaide crowd. Look we have an unknown that we agree must prove his worth on the field, so what if a guy posts a rumor, like none have ever been posted here. DD is a different breed of cat, may be an empty suit or may be great but to blast the guy for posting what he heard is ridiculous. DD is not user friendly and thinks we can win without star recruits which is a major change for most of us. Here is a rumor that will pan out look for AD to be wearing a USC uniform in one year, take it to the bank.

I did not say it was accurate, I did not endorse, nor did I agree. I said if true its a problem, the opertive word is if true, never once in that thread did I say it was true. Ut I am asking what am I to apologize for?? Someone on Volquest said we had no coaches at Kerbysons spring game and I asked about it. Case closed!

Dude, Chaney was there earlier the same week. We didn't have coaches at his spring game because they had already been by and couldn't come back by in the same week. Hubbs also confirmed this. So, it's true no one was there, but we had visited him earlier in the week, so let it go, there is no freaking out to be done here.

Good post and I totally agree with you. Don't know why some people are just looking for a reason to not like DD. Give the man a chance people.

not true. read any articles about eho we are recruiting and one thing is certain. dooley is a players coach. rather on the pratice field or on the recruiting trail. look at the difference between Kiffin and Dooley. Maturity. Kiffin acted as if he was very disciplined but he was tranparent. He was a fraud. Dooley is the real deal. very intelligent. i haven't read a article without them mentioning dooley was intellectual friendly and dedicated to want he's doing. but remember players can be reluctant toward a coach if they are forced to be put into a situation they rather not be in. like to work harder than they'd like to on the pratice field. thats one example. as a former baseball/football player it's easy to dislike any coach.

I'll be honest---"I don't care about who said what whenever about Derek Dooley..." mainly because it doesn't really matter. Nick Saban is not the most well liked guy in Alabama but he wins. Not saying Dooley is Saban so don't everyone jump on me but the bottom line is I'm judging what I see based on how the team plays in the beginning, middle and end of the season. Dooley isn't Mister Popular and in some circles he might not ever be considered that...he also isn't the End All Be All that will get us rolling again RIGHT NOW. Right now he's an unknown quantity so I realize that speculation will reign on these boards. Rumors and innuendo are what drive the message boards but I don't think they should all be considered legit...not to knock the fella that started this thread but that's what I'm thinking about when he posted his comments!

I'll end this thought by saying that we need some more positive posters! GO VOLS!

Everything I've read, been trained on or lived as it relates to leadership and managment has shown me that rarely if ever are leadership transitions successfully achieved without some feelings being hurt and some people being resistant and or negative. Most leadership transitions start with a dictatorial approach and that rarely makes immediate friends, but the style is appropriate for immediate results and action. Bottom line is if DD wasn't making some waves or creating some negative energy we should probablly be more worried. Nothing is less productive than a contented group with no vision.

Well, I know I've done something wrong if Fiji is on my side. Let me repeat, I am not against Dooley in any way and I like what I have seen from him so far. I was shocked when I heard the info(rumor) that I did today and wanted to see if any of the recruting guys had heard anything similar. That is why I posted it in the recruiting forum. Looking back, this was not the best decision. Sorry.

Not all the players liked Kiffin when he first got here. Most of the guys that didn't like LK at the beginning loved him until he left.

A lot of these players have had to deal with 4 OC's, 3 HCs and 3 DCs. They aren't all going to love the new guy.

It's not a big deal. They learn to like the new coach or they won't play here.

Yessir. Truthfully, given all the facts, most seem to have handled this with a good deal of maturity.
