This is not a shot at most of the people here. I know you guys come to support your team, not sit in your seat with your thumb up your butt. For those that do, hear this...DO NOT BUY TICKETS ANYMORE.

If you're gonna spend money to come to the game, please act like you are alive. Make some noise, try to get your boys pumped up. They are not always going to energize you.

And for those who donate, spend a bunch of money, and do not show up to the games (there was not 22K there, I don't care what the official attendance says), please, go waste your money somewhere else. This coach and team deserves better. The crowd yesterday was pitiful, just like many crowds at football games.

BTW, why go to the game, and leave with 5 minutes to go? Are we to the point now where we are already complacent, and if they don;t play well, it's time to go?

Some people are just pathetic...I just don't get it.

Yeah, it really sucks for those of us that miss out on the tickets. Alot of people on the lower level simply go to sit and watch while alot in the upper levels are loud and energetic. Why get a lower level ticket when you don't care if you impact the game?

that is pathetic i cant stand people who go and dont get loud, becuase if your not loud your team is not gonna capture the momentum and will prolly get beat

In some defense of the crowd yesterday, a large part of our loudest contigent(the students) were out because it is mid term week. It was a sellout but only about half of the student tickets were sold. I would expect the arena to be packed and jumping on Wednesday though.

BS it was Saturday man.

Preach on brother TD! Nothing worse than getting to see 1 game a year and have some yahoo tell you to sit down (it happens to me every year). It's supposed to be loud that's what the homecourt advantage should be.

I know it was Saturday, but some of the students were studying for their exams. The students have showed up well all year unless exams were coming up.

It's true...I went to the game yesterday, and the women's today, now I'm faced with an un-started 5page essay due tomm, a book report tuesday, and a midterm wed...

I'm not sure if i have more thurs and friday yet..one day at a time.

But because of the game, I'm behind. A lot of students chose to do their work.

It's alot of the same stuff at the football games too. You would think that by having one of the largest football and basketball venues that Tennessee would have a much better home field/court advantage. I know in football there are too many "social" fans who just have season tickets because it's the in thing, a status symbol. Too many old foggies too. In basketball I think the main problem was the huge amount of corporate giveaway tickets that were handed out to big time donors and their contingents when they built Thompson-Bolling. If you're not going to cheer stay home and give your ticket to someone that will!!!

OWB, I know this. I just thought things might be a little different for this basketball team.

How wrong I was...

Yeah I know, it's almost like we can't figure out that WE need to make the noise to help the team. Not sit around and wait to be inspired.

Maybe we need some better cheerleaders.

One thing my friend pointed out yesterday...instead of cheers to get the crowd involved, we had to recognize someone, or introduce some little kids from somewhere for doing something noone really cares about.

At least let the cheerleaders try to get the crowd involved. They did it once, but it was during Arkansas' run, and by then, we were already out of it.

Oh well, I just need to make it to more games and get the people around more involved myself. LOL

I agree with you OTD88...i haven't personally been to a bball game this year, and from what i understand and have seen on tv, it does seem to be better than in the past, but overall, we have too many fans that are perfectly fine in just sitting there....doing nothing.

It drives me crazy. I was at the SEC CG in 01 vs. LSU, and there were actually TN fans shshing me!!!! telling me "be a good sport, they're only 18 year old kids". BS...they're the ENEMY for the next 3 hours!!!!

and all they did all game was clap a little and want me to sit down.

You know though, what MH is doing with the ticket prices and donations etc....that might help that problem over time. maybe get a younger, more energetic crowd to bball and football games.

No reason at all with the size of the stadiums we have for them to be so quiet in such distinct parts of the stadium/arena.

Go VOls Fans!!!! get off your asses and make some noise!!!

there was at least 17,000 there and thats a real acomplishment for any school, you must have not seen any other arenas in america but most teams are happy to get 10,000 or 15,000 even in power conferences. We are leading the SEC in attendence our fans are showing up in more numbers than every. There isnt enough basketball fans in knoxville to fill up the arena every night, very few teams get more than 15,000. If you went to the games last year like I did and there was about 9,000 in the arena per night you'd be thrilled with how it is going.

If Pearl and the team are rellying on the fans to get them into the game then we would never win an away game. And If all the rich donation people hadnt donated to get seats then we wouldnt have an arena to play in. Loud CRowd or not. THe fans are there to watch, Its up to the team to get pumped.

The reason people dont cheer is cause we dont win. Football sux. Phil is fat and we got no recruits this year. Impredicting record low attendances.

we redshirted almost all the recruits from last year, I expect us to be back to TOP 25 this year, if Cutcliff can produce a solid QB. All is not lost in football, we will be back on top. Record low attendences are about 40,000 lower than they were this year.

Good post, in my experience, intelligence is really lacking on most message boards. You have proved me wrong with your well thought out and highly informative post.

I am personally ready for the "blue-hairs" to go away. Especially at Neyland. How many have come in to Neyland and left laughing at us? I need only name one. VANDERBILT. Some say the coaches and players shouldn't need us to win. Ok, then why do we even bother building stadiums and arena that can hold an entire city? Why does Texas A@M call their fans the 12th man? Why does Duke call their fans Camren Crazies? Why did Bruce Pearl put so much time in to the fans before the season? To say the fans do not account in the outcome of a game is just plain stupid and if you think that.....well, I guess that makes you stupid.

PEACE!

Fortunately, there are those of us who aren't stupid! (you know, except for a few grammer mistakes, here and there)

Cant agree with that at all. Athletes and fans alike have always fed off each other. as a former athlete I not only got pumped for the game, but If the home crowd was fired up so was the team. If we were on the road the harder their fans were on us the harder we played to "stick it to them" like it or not crowd emotion will more often than not dictate how a team performs...

wow, i really wish you wouldnt try to be so positive about Vols football and quit thinking that we will be able to come back from ONE bad season in probably TWO DECADES. you could be one of the reasons this thread was started, it seems like you would be one of "those fans"
