Sat in front of a couple from SC. Nice people. They made a point to stay and shake our hand after my son and my loooong celebratory hug.

Wished them well.

There's always one:

My daughter, a USC student, and her room mate we not happy with the fans and left right after the game because of this. She was disappointed that there fans cheered when both Quarles and Shaw got hurt. She said this was not drunk students, but the older part of the crowd.

Wondering if the daughter knows the difference between cheering and clapping when the player is able to make it off the field like good spectators traditionally do.

Or lumping the entire fan base in with a couple of idiots that do cheer at injuries. Because there are those as well.

I don't recall it being that way...with quarels, I don't think anyone knew he was hurt initially because it happened on a big play. Once folks realized I thought they were respectful. In regards to Shaw, I recall it being quiet. Both recieved ovations when they left the field.

Did you hear our idiot male cheerleaders leading an Orange White cheer in the upper deck while one of our players was laying on the field?

I am so glad to read this. It seems to me that some of our fans forget to keep the CL in class. You gain nothing by being a jerk to other people, but by treating other with respect they tend to return the favor. Keep it up folks! Let's show visiting teams that Knoxville is a great place! (To loose a football game!)

We took two SC fans with us for the 2nd time in a row (also went in 2011) and they loved it. Both said how it was so much better this time since the game was so close.

Honestly we UT fans seem to have a generally positive reception from other fan bases....I honestly have to say my favorite opposing teams fans are Oregon's, and it really seems they share the bromance for some reason haha.

Been to Columbia 3 times including 98 when tee set the record for most consecutive completions and it was like 49 tp 7 when we pulled the starters...SC fans have been great every time. Hope we can return their respect.

My cousin and his roommate(USCe students)went to the game yesterday. This was a first trip to Knoxville for both of them and they came away very impressed. I got a text this morning from him saying they had a great time despite the loss and have never met a nicer group of opposing fans. They've been to Gainesville, Athens, Auburn, Clemson and Nashville for games and said UT fans are by far the most courteous, respectful fans they've come across.

Didn't the SC fans actually start cheering when Tee broke the record?

It's been awhile, so my memory isn't perfect...but I seem to remember that happening

I'm glad to hear the positive reviews. I always make it a point to be respectful and courteous to opposing fans that make it to Neyland (UF fans test me) in hopes that my small gestures will in some way be reciprocated when I travel to away games. It's the old Golden Rule scenario. My greatest away game experience has still been Bama in '05 and it'll be hard to top.

There was an older SC fan sitting buy me and he stayed and watched Butch and the celebration. As I left we talked about Mizzou and he said that he always roots for us to win and that he wished we could have beat UGA and hopes we get Mizzou. I wished him good luck on their season and told him that I hoped they are able to get to the SEC championship. As I turned to leave he said, you know y'all have the right guy at coach right? Very nice guy and as I ran across cock fans on my way back I gave em a good game or good luck. Great fans!

You may or may not be interested but here are a couple of quotes from cockytalk.com about UT fans and their experience at Neyland in General (no pun intended).

"Tennessee fans

A couple of things... first, everyone who was at the game can agree that place was LOUD yesterday. seemed a lot louder than 2 years ago which was a night game and I sat essentially in the same place right behind the band.

second, these fans are great. another trip to Knoxville and another trip that not one Vol fan said a word to me after the game (except for one "ballsy" female after the game that said "haaa they suck" under her breath after the game walking by me) after the game went back downtown to eat and watch Clemson and again not one complaint... a dollar got everytime someone asked how Shaw was doing or telling me safe travels. great welcoming polite people and I will keep going back until someone changes my mind. if you've never been to a road game I highly recommend Tennessee.

oh and the best thing about them... a bunch of Gamecocks at the bar we went to last night... even had the Tennessee fans doing the chop with us."

-------- New quote:

"TOTALLY agree. Ive been to Knoxville once to see the boys play, what a great time. People are awesome. I will pull for Tenn over anyone else always for that reason. And most of them feel the same way for us from what i have been around"

-------- New quote:

"Always a good time in Kville-even better if we would have won! Nothing beats along the riverfront."

My comment: It's great to be a Tennessee Vol. It's good that our fans for the most part are viewed as respectful.

They had beaten us 3 years in a row, you always like the fans of teams you have beaten. I hope they hate us again really soon!

There is no reason to be disrespectful to away fans...and they have no reason to act stupid in our stadium...but there is always that idiot fans no matter what color you wear to the game...Its college football...were anything can happen on a given game...
