Something rotten w/ DL recruiting

The bolded is just simply not true. From @VOLUNTEERSZN post on the previous page it's pretty obvious that we will have a pretty solid DL rotation going into next season. Sure, there will always be an opportunity for elite talent to earn PT, but it's not a given. Look at the top 4/5/6 names. Hard to believe that they wouldn't have a leg up on PT over any incoming freshman next season IMO.

Gooden - RS Senior
Emerson - RS Sophomore
Middleton - Junior
Solomon - Junior
Butler - RS Senior
Bumphus - RS Senior
Blakely - RS Senior
Williams - RS Junior
Garland - RS Sophomore
Mincey - Junior
Simmons - RS Freshman
Harris - RS Sophomore
D. Bailey - Freshman.
One name that sticks out that has been an extreme surprise is Bumphus. He has rotated positions several times and has definitely found the right position, now.

Pretty sad to think Butch recruited better than Pruitt
Did he though? There's more contributing on-the-field freshman from last class than Butch had in any year on their senior seasons...

Losing Hardy? Yea, would have liked to have had him... end of the world for recruiting this year? No... people need to quit overreacting every time one little thing doesn't fall our way... Pruitt will pull in a top 10 class again and everything will be fine... those low-rated 350+ lb lineman will well-beyond outperform their recruiting stock, and all will be well with the world...

Slow your Chicken Little posts people

FYI Callahan on PC, Hardy flipped on sat. This isnt over...

Apparently he wasnt getting the attention he wanted from Pruitt. Coaches were focused on winning. Be interesting to see what happens when Nieds hits the road.

Agree with the OP, there is something rotten with DL recruiting, and it's name is Tracy Rocker. I've been saying for weeks that he is not even a below average recruiter. He got fired from UGA because he wouldn't give the effort towards recruiting that ole smarty pants wanted. He lost Derrick Brown to Auburn (sound familiar) and that was the last straw.

On another note we CAN NOT be losing top in-state talent. They are supposed to be the "easier" targets. We need to get at least half of the blue chip (4-5 stars) prospects in TN every year. According to 247 sports we have 11 blue chips with 4 currently committed to us. If we can get Baron and Thomas the sting of losing Hardy won't be as bad.

I am still amazed by the miserable minority group. The absolute obsession with finding something to complain/whine about is unbelievable. No one on this board knows what is actually taking place in recruiting. We still only have 16 recruits, meaning we have NINE more slots to fill. There are more teams ahead of us with full classes than not, so we will move up. That is even if we fill the rest of the class with 3-stars. I do not believe that will be the case.

Can’t lose guys like Hardy today especially Instate kids. 10th in the SEC recruiting rankings won’t cut it.

is signing day over and I missed it...there's still time to go yet...wouldn't be surprised if many recruits these days want to wait till Feb to get the "big splash" face time on ESPN...who says we've lost Hardy yet...yep, I know the news, but has he signed on the line yet...patience my friends...all is not lost...yet....:D

GO BIG ORANGE...BEAT THE WILDCATS!

Per Volquest and 247, Hardy told them that he changed his mind based on this last visit to Auburn after telling UT he was coming for months. And this is Auburn. Based on their history, the Hardy family may have driven home to Chattanooga in a much better financial position than on their drive down.

Well, as far the the defense is concerned we may have to go the way of Bud Foster of Va. Tech years ago. That was to take 2* and 3* players and develop them into the best players possible. Bud survived doing that for a number of years. I just didn't expect all this instate talent to desert us. Talk about a huge huge year this would have been.

We haven't seen the worst on the board yet. If we lose to Ky we both may have to take 2 weeks vacation from the board. It will really be unpleasant. Sure don't want to see very cold weather and a slick ball.

Yeah, I'm not buying the money gambit. You just don't go down to Auburn suddenly commit out of the blue.
People better watch quoting this money angle gambit. Kid could have gotten turned off by a lot of things.
People saying it isn't over yet while posters and others run with the money bag gambit which would definitely turn the parents off and is offensive.
Maybe something with the coaches did happen. Of course in most of these posters eyes that's just impossible.

Whether you like him or not, take a minute to read part of Basilio’s blog today about our coaches rankings as recruiters. Niedermeyer has dropped big time and some guys have never made much of an impact.

Read my post again. I clearly said "all over the field"

Yea...responding to a post from Atlanta Vol about Jay Hardy and DL recruiting...smh

Even considering your 2 deep "all over the field" opinion, what's readily available in the positions you listed? OL at Tackle? Maybe WR? LB is about the only real spot in the 2 deep we could guarantee early PT right now.

We currently have more 4* than 3* but yes let’s overreact and say we need to take 2* players.

And what is all the in state talent deserting us? Chris Morris and Bryn Tucker we wanted and now Hardy is committed elsewhere. We have like 7 in state commits in this class alone and are still in on Grimes, Thomas, Henderson, Baron.

If we end up with 10 in state players in the class, that’s a huge number.

You have room in 2 man rotation
RB
OL
WR
LB
DB

A freshman RB would be 4th string at best unless we brought in an elite talent like Zach Evans. Chandler, and Jordan are both Seniors and Gray will be a sophomore.

There’s no opportunity for any freshman to start at tackle the next 2 seasons barring a major injury. It’s gonna be hard to pull any elite player there no matter how much we win. We’re pulling in a ton of talent on the interior line already. If Trey comes back and Kennedy gets a 6th year that'll be major

LB does need serious help, Both inside and outside. Thankfully we’re in prime position to land some quality guys there.

We’ve landed 2 really good receivers in Hyatt and Calloway, and are in a good spot for TJB. We probably take a transfer there depending on who goes into the portal.

Needs top 5 class IMO. Staff is developing players. Got to recruit at a high level or we will stay excited beating UK and Vandy every year barely making a bowl. Bama game was proof talent helps coaching

Yay! We are improving as a team, but we are back to the coaches are terrible and don't know what they are doing. Wring - Wring Gnash - Gnash
