Sonny Dykes

No, the only thing I think of when I hear the name Sonny Dykes, is that for LT he was an upgrade over Derek Dooley.

Nerd is actually right. I just don't know what the general fan base would say if we replace one la la tech with another la la tech coach

We could do a lot worse.

That is really true. I watched their bowl game last year. I thought they were better coached than we have been this season. Sonny is not in my top five picks but he is better than Derek imho

We would have no recruits over a three star on signing day. We need to make a splash hire to try to salvage this class and not set ourselves back another couple of years.

Yeah, but if the fanbase doesn't want a good coach who is a proven winner simply because he's coaching at the same school we hired a proven loser from last time, then they clearly don't understand football and you can't worry about appeasing them. Ultimately, they'll come back when we win anyway, and that's what we need to be looking for, someone who is going to win and someone who can win big games.

Dykes did a pretty good job salvaging the class when he was handed the La Tech job. The joker that was there before him left just weeks before signing day. Can you imagine that?

Dykes may have the 1 team in the NCAA with a worse defense than ours. Didn't they just give up 55 pts to Texas State or some ridiculous team this past weekend?

Tidy season? Beating cupcakes in no way qualifies him to coach at Tennessee.

Dooley lost to those same cupcakes and they gave him the job.

He's a mid major coach. He has pretty much the same talent level and facilities as the "cupcake" competition he's facing. You could have said that Meyer only played cupcakes at Utah or that Kelly was only playing cupcakes at Cincinatti. What was important was that they were playing teams with similar levels of talent and they were winning regularly.

All that he and Tony care about is leading the NCAA in plays per game.

I like Dykes' system (really, it is Franklin's system, but you get what I'm saying). I think it'd work in the SEC, and I even think he'd have the guys to run here. However, the idea of hiring a coach after only three years as a head man is jumping the gun a bit.

He's a good coach though. He'll get an offer from a top school if he keeps LaTech at the level they've been playing at during his tenure.

Exactly. Dykes isn't a bad get.

I envy the school that gets Dykes. He will do big things in the SEC.

Yeah, I'm worried that the other SEC schools, even including Kentucky, are going to hire better coaches, because (if this board is any indication) we seem to be overthinking it. Everyone on here wants some big name, usually some guy who has been fired recently (but they come up with excuses for that), but they want them just because they recognize the name and associate it with success years ago. Nevermind that these retread hires almost never work out. Other schools arejust going to look and say "Hey, that guy is a winner, let's hire him." Whereas, we are going to keep doing what we've done the last two times and overlook recent wins and losses in favor of other data that doesn't matter a bit.

I hope I'm wrong, but with the names I'm hearing on sports radio, it doesn't sound like I will be.

I say get him, and tell him to bring his oc with him. Get chavis to come back home, and call it a day.

I heard Hart has added sonny to the list. My buddy works over in the AD as a GA. He tells me it's nothing serious yet, and that there are names ahead of him, but Hart himself has stated that it's very worth keeping an eye on. Further, he mentions that it may be a hard pill for the donors, but he really is happy with the progression of Sonny.

This is all stuff my buddy told me on the phone last night.

Wow, that's good to hear. I'm just hoping we're looking at some young proven winners who could be here for the next 7-10 years.

I just hope we don't end up with an old retread. Historically, guys who get fired at one big school and then get hired at another rarely ever work out.

Louisiana Tech's Monday press conference has been canceled according to Tim Fletcher of KTBS because Dykes is on a "recruiting trip"

Since his name has been brought up I felt this was worth posting. The recruiting trip line sounds really fishy.
