Sooner fan really looking forward to the game

The brutal awakening these Oklahoma fans suffered at the difference between the B12 and the SEC still makes me chuckle. These who started and participated in this thread in particular, because they were so cocky coming in.

The Germans knew a thing or two when they came up with the idea of schadenfreude.

Go Vols!

I said from the very beginning that Oklahoma will have a rougher adjustment period in the SEC than Texas, but I do believe they'll get it figured out eventually. They're too proud and too storied of a program to become South Carolina. But it's going to take some time.

I agree, don't think they'll become South Carolina. But it's entirely possible they become LSU or Auburn. A team that is sometimes up but often riding a level below the top teams in the conference. Like UGa under Mark Richt. That kind of "success without championships".

One thing for sure they won't do...and I mean ever, as long as they're in the SEC even if it is for two centuries or longer, is win another 50 conference titles. That only happens in a "snow white and seven dwarfs" place like the B12 and B8 while they were there.

Yeah you're right. Auburn is probably a good comparison.

I agree. New Coaches as well will see how difficult it is to come in and be a success unless they have been in the SEC.

"The Grind" is the one thing that other conferences cannot duplicate. Yes, you may get an upset or two in your first or second year or catch an opponent early in the season but you have to build depth and consistency.

A coach wants to come to the SEC, but will quickly realize to be careful for what you wish for in the future. The portal and recruiting are greatly needed to help this process. I would like to see the Conference go to 4 divisions to better facilitate scheduling and balance out strength of scheduling for tie breakers.
