Schaeffer's family had already contacted USF prior to the fight. Look for him to surface at South Florida.

. . . .Which just so happens to be one of the ugliest campuses I have ever seen. Sure can't imagine taking the drop from the SEC to USF. At least he won't be too far from the beach.

Well Vol Fans, I knew all along Brent was leaving...
We talked at the Hotel in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl on New Year's Eve.
Brent was very unhappy at UT, he expressed that clearly.
Those problems were all part his plan to leave...He knew getting kicked off the team was his best option for leaving, rather than transfer.
He told me if he didn't get the playing time at QB during the Spring, that this could very well be his last semester at UT. So now you guys know...
One thing for sure you will never see that kind of behavior from David Holbert, that's my nephew!!! We have raised him to be an oustanding young man, and Coach Fulmer and his staff don't have anything to worry about when it comes to him.. He represents Nashville and the Holbert name well...Brent is history!! Great talent, but let's move on and win this thing this year. We will and can do it without him. That's one less distraction...Now Clausen and Ainge can breathe easy and just win baby.. After next year you guys will forget Brent Schaeffer...We will miss him... Good Luck Brent...

I don't think he will start there either! USF had one of AU former QB's transfer down there. His name was Courtney Denson he sat out this past year.

Welcome to the board. I'll bet you are proud to have a fine young man like David Holbert as your nephew. I think he will be a big contributor this year.

Thanks....he will contribute tremendously this year..he's up to 260lbs..the kid is a football player...be on the lookout for him...I just hope the coaches realize it!!! No knock on Corey Anderson, but if I were him, I wouldn't take one play off this year. Holbert is serious this year!!!!

Too bad but it will certainly clear up rhetoric at practice and on this site. Also will give more reps to Clausen, Ainge and Crompton. Good athlete but, aren't they all? Good job Phil, throw down the gauntlet on these kids!!! :nono: :spank: :bottom: :punch_bag: p.s. this news isn't really that bad.

I wish the kid nothing but the best. He choose use first and it didn't work out.

Those saying good riddens should be ashamed.

No Brent didn't say getting kicked off the team was his best option...
He knew that it was his best option...
The kid has some pride as far as transferring, he didn't want you guys to think he transferred b/c of not winning the starting job. So therefore he started missing classes after being warned....

Those wishing that Brent not have a good career, that is.

Saw some on other boards saying they hoped Brent would never start a game with anyone else.

Very true. When you think about it, Its not that big of a loss. I mean Ainge is a very good athelete. Him and clausen can hold down the fort as we wait for Crompton to get ready.

Schaeffer could have contributed to this team in some way this year. He is a very talented kid. I don't think he would have won the starting QB job but I sure would liked to have seen him play receiver and return punts.

I wish him the best wherever he ends up.

He had his chances, many. No sympathy here. Grow up.

Coach Pearl said something about Tyler Smith that really made an impression on me and I think it holds true for ANY would-be athlete. The University of Tennessee can do a whole lot more for Brent Schaeffer than Brent Schaeffer can do for the University of Tennessee. It makes me a little sad, because even though I once stated that Brent Schaeffer "sucked" I really didn't mean it. I was just ticked off at seeing him play fast and loose with a position that hundreds of young men would almost KILL for. I wish these young athletes would stop thinking that their talent makes them untouchable. Good-bye Brent. Good luck wherever you wind up.

Not saying anyone should give him any at all.

Wishing him future failure is another matter

It's sounding like we are going to get more bad news on the football team today or tomorrow. I hope it's not true. RUMORS are flying that a star player will be dismissed for academic reasons. Let's hope it's just a rumor.

can anyone tell me what frat. was involved in all of this mess? also, where is he trying to go?

If that be the case then I have less respect for Schaeffer than before. There is no shame in transferring but to deliberately get yourself kicked off the team so you can go somewhere else is shameful and show a lack of maturity. Him leaving was not unexpected since he would rather sleep than attend team and position meetings. Schaeffers biggest drawback to playing time was his inability to applying himself enough to learn the offense at UT.

Hope your nephew has a speedy recovery. Last word I had was he wouldn't be back til the Florida game any update.
