Well, I join the others in hoping that it works out for Brent. Clearly, UT was not the right fit for him. It's unfortunate for him and UT though the way this went down (embarrassing for both parties).

I also give Fulmer credit for acting quickly. Hopefully this (and perhaps things he is doing behind the scenes) will solve the problems and get the players' attention focused on FOOTBALL

Well, it was against UNLV... Schaeffer could run circles around marshmallow teams, but was rendered pretty ineffective against SEC defenses.

He could always run around. I think the more accurate description would be that he was overmatched and lacked poise when trying to read and throw against SEC defenses.

More on Schaeffer:

His problems at UT include not attending meetings and classes, sleeping in meetings, late for meetings, loved to party, failure to learn playbook, had problems with authority, some Teammates had lost a confidence in him and other were losing confidence in him, was upset Fulmer chewed his butt over his arrest

All this adds up to one thing...

BAD ATTITUDE

Im sorry for ever doubting your wisdom on out UT players. You called it a week ago just how bad he was for our team and you hit it on the nail. Sorry for doubting you.

Wisdom?? :dlol:

I was just ticked off because he didn't appreciate what he had.

I have no "wisdom".

:peace2:

Thank you, anyway.

Look for Schaeffer to get a conditional release. No SEC teams, No NC State and no one on UT's schedule thru 2008

I think this was a case of "I'm not going to quit, you're going to have to run me off". Either way good riddance to bad rubbish I say. Does that make a difference as far as eligability(sp.) is concerned?

No, If he goes to another D-1 school he must sit a year if he wishes to go to a school that is prohibited by his release he must sit and pay his own way.

losing brent is real bad he could have really helped if ainge started choking up again i still say if not for brent the gamecocks would have beaten us

That's crazy - the Vols would have beaten the Gamecocks with or without Shaeffer. Brent was finding out that the big time SEC defenses could handle his style of play. His style maybe exciting for a while, but, in the long run you're not going to win championships with him because for one it's inconsistent and for another he is going to always get hurt during critical parts of the season. Take a good look at the top college teams and you'll see they all have the big strong armed QB directing their team - not the Brent Schaeffer type QBs.

Ainge will still be in competition with Clausen. Not to mention we saw last year how a talented freshman can affect things. Enter Jon Crompton. Schaeffer needed to go. How can you expect a young man to lead your team off the field if he can't set an example off the field. I hope from this that the captains will step up and keep their teammates in line, so the coaches won't have to get rid of anyone else.

And BTW, Bret Smith is still an idiot for kicking a man while he is down, and outnumbered.

Fulmer said UT won't release Schaeffer to anybody in the SEC, nor any other school appearing on the Vols' schedule during Schaeffer's remaining eligibility. The Deerfield Beach, Fla., native would have to sit out next season, but would be eligible to play in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
