South America on brink of war

No Bush isn't responsible. The Iraq War, falling dollar, growing deficit, are just a result of Bush being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Remind me how these are connected to the current situation in Columbia?

Ecuador: Colombian raid prevented release of captives - CNN.com

And evidence found in the raid suggests that Chavez recently gave the FARC $300 million, Colombia's national police chief said Monday.
Speaking at a news conference, Gen. Oscar Naranjo said evidence in three seized computers also suggests FARC had given Chavez 100 million pesos when he was a jailed rebel leader.
Naranjo said other evidence in the computers suggests FARC purchased 50 kilograms of uranium this month.
"The revelations about agreements between the terrorist group FARC and the governments of Ecuador and Venezuela will be submitted to the Organization of American States and the United Nations," Uribe's communique said Monday.
Naranjo said the evidence also shows that Ecuador's minister of security met recently with Reyes, and that Ecuador had "an interest in formalizing relations with the FARC," according to an account published on a Colombian government Web site.
The stakes may have gotten just a bit higher...

Wow that is an interesting development! Dangerous but interesting. Could that money that was transfered be payment for some sort of terrorist act!

After living in VZ for 6 years, I would suggests that Columbia invades the country on a Saturday night when the entire Venezuelan population is drinking and dancing away. They know how to party....:)

What will be our involvement?

I'm pretty certain we already have A-Teams advising the Colombian military.

I figure this to be Hugo posturing, nothing will come of it. Once he is done rattling his sabre, things will die down, and we will sell fighter-bombers to Colombia, to prevent further "miscommunications".

Also, i hear Sarkozy has threatened the FARC, and indirectly Hugo, with action if the French prisoners are not released. I'd love for King Hugo to get taken over the knee and spanked by the Foreign Legion Parachute Regiment.

The more info I get on this the more I think this is ALL posturing and no real action will come of it. It is inevitable that Chavez will milk this for all it is worth. It is the M O of every communist dictator to rally the country around some external threat so the people will galvanize around him.

In response to the Legion comment
They are an impressive bunch, my plan was to try it, until i found myself de-facto married 3 months after leaving the US Army. I love my life, but i also think that will be my "Woulda Coulda Shoulda" for my life. Putting on the Kepi Blanc would have been the crowning achievement of my life. Oh well, i don't regret not doing it, i guess.
