South America on brink of war

If Chavez crosses the Columbian border, forcing the U.S. to honor its military treaty, does that mean the U.S. can claim Venezuelan oil fields as war reparations?

I like your thinking... And when Amajanadouchebag jumps in to help him we can have Iran too.. I hear the women are hot, because of all of the clothes they wear.

The Monroe doctrine, I believe only states that the US will not allow Foreign powers, (at signing time was Europe, although we did allow Germany to militarily press its case against Venezuela) to interfere or commit war on South America. I dont believe we have a treaty that allows us to stop them from warring amongst themselves?

That said, if Ven. commits to a war we will undoubtably side with Columbia and probably wouldnt use ground troops of our own that would be left to the Columbians. We do have two aspects of our military not being stressed by the war in ME. That is the Navy and a good deal of the Air Force. Look for strategic bombing of military targets and Columbian ground forces in mop up duty. Chavez has made a huge mistake that the ME has not and that is he has seperated his military from his civilian population centers enough so we can effectively wipe out his military with minimum civilian casualties.

I believe you are correct, Sir. Also, I do not believe that the US stepped in the last time that a European Power and a South American country went to war. (1982).

I definitely do not see the US stepping into this for any reason, especially to honor a treaty (as, the idea of honoring treaties is laughable to the Democratic establishment that now controls Congress.)

I'm not well versed on this one. But the Falklands belong to the UK, so they were technically defending their own territory. However, they sill asked permission from us, got it and more.
