South Carolina is who we thought they were

What I saw in this game is that UConn has the better shooters and better coached players. UConn was able to get and make open shots and more importantly get to the foul line. The team that gets there usually wins the game. They got 23 attempts to SC's 10. SC won the rebound battle but shot 35 percent. They are a lot like us. That game up there could be down to the wire.

UConn has better under pressure shooters. Some of KML's 3 pt makes were ridiculous. She is deadly from outside.

All 5 starters for UConn can hit the outside shot, and all 5 of them play well in high-pressure situations. That latter statement is, IMHO, why they are the best team in the country.

Guard play was horrible for SC, they caught Uconn on a good shooting nite but catch em on a night when the shots are not falling, on a neutral site, and those er'ones else , all those teams have a shot.

You realize Geno get the best white player er'very time. When was last our prize recruit was white? hmmmmm

I don't even know how to respond to this. . . It sure doesn't belong on our (or anyone else's) fan board. Perhaps your sheet is too tight?

I don't understand y people keep comparing coaches to Geno. He has 9 titles. No coach in the women's game can compare. Pat is gone. It's very easy to recruit when you have a HOF coach and 9 titles.

When Geno was Dawn's age he had only coached his team to one Final Four. When Dawn is 60, going on 61 then that conversation will be valid. UCONN has 6 McDonald's All-Americans and USC has 4. Of USC's 4, however, 3 are freshmen and 1 is a sophomore. UCONN will be hard for any team to beat while Geno is there, but he can't coach forever.

Perhaps a more meaningful comparison would be if you look at how long they have been coaching. In the 15 years Staley has been coaching she has been to zero final fours and zero championships. Auriema during that same coaching span went to 4 final fours and won 2 championships. We could do a head to head with him & Pat but Dawn isn't in either league yet - by a long shot!

Staley is very tough-minded and competitive--she was that way as a player--but she can't be called a great coach; as Meek said, she's won nothing in 15 years. Her comments at halftime of the UConn game were not impressive--she had nothing to say other than they game wasn't over yet. Putting athletes on the floor is not the same as melding them into a great basketball /team/. That is the difference between UConn and USC--and us.

Well, in the first 6-7 years as HC of the Huskies - without any prior coaching experience whatsoever, Auriemma didn't go off and spend his off-seasons playing in the NBA & the Olympics - he was out on the road recruiting and building his program. And then after his first 7 yrs or so, he didn't wipe the slate clean and start over with a rebuilding project in a new location. But while Staley has done all those things during her coaching career, she's built 2 programs into regular NCAAT teams.

I don't think anyone is trying to place Dawn Staley in Auriemma's or Summitt's league yet before she's won her first NC, but then at the same time she nor anyone should have to be in those coach's leagues in order to be considered a great head coach...

"If Geno had been an AA guard for some midwest or southern women's team the complaints about UConn's dominance would be significantly reduced. This doesn't apply to everyone, but it is a factor to a significant percentage." :peace2:
