I think we are on the cusp of new ways of funding space exploration becoming readily available. Venture capital has been flowing into the sector, and Starlink is meant to generate revenue for Musk’s ambitions.
I keep waiting for Apple to step in considering all the money they have in Tim Cook’s mattress; I think they made enough profit just in the last quarter to fund NASA for a year.
I watched a few minutes of a Joe Rogan podcast/interview with Musk last night. In particular, talking about AI and his concerns that it needs more of a focus from .gov he mentioned having had a one-on-one with Obama as well as having brought it before Congress and also in a meeting with all 50 governors but that his points on AI have been largely ignored. So he has access at those levels, and I agree he is pretty non-partisan, but has not gotten a lot of traction on that subject anyway.Musk is actually pretty apolitical when it comes to individual politicians, but when he speaks about politics in general, he has a pretty conservative view and thinks the government should be getting out of the way and letting the private sector do their thing.
True. But big money players seem to have ways to influence government decisions in their favor so the FAA will likely cease to be a problem when the right people are “convinced”.Remember SpaceX, Blue Origin, Proton, Virgin Galactic can have all the money they want but the only way their rockets/vehicles get off the ground in the United States is on one condition and that's only if the FAA (i.e. Government) allows it!
Boeing laughs in defense contract.
The crazy thing is with the way Elon Musk's engineers work, if they ever put their minds to burying Boeing and others, they could do it. Hell, they already are with the space angle and the only thing keeping Boeing, ULA and Northrop afloat are the elevated prices they charge for services and other government programs.
If Musk decided to start a company dedicated to weapons manufacturing, he'd run them all out of business if he used the same model he uses for SpaceX and Tesla.
The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating SpaceX over whether the company discriminates against non-U.S. citizens in its hiring practices and said Elon Musk’s company is stonewalling a subpoena for information, court documents revealed Thursday.
The DOJ’s Immigrant and Employee Rights Section received a complaint of employment discrimination from a non-U.S. citizen claiming that the company discriminated against him based on his citizenship status.
“The charge alleges that on or about March 10, 2020, during the Charging Party’s interview for the position of Technology Strategy Associate, SpaceX made inquiries about his citizenship status and ultimately failed to hire him for the position because he is not a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident,” DOJ attorney Lisa Sandoval wrote in a court document filed Thursday. The document was a request for a judge to order SpaceX to comply with an administrative subpoena for documents related to how the company hires.
Specifically, the charge alleges that on or about March 10, 2020, during the Charging Party’s interview for the position of Technology Strategy Associate, SpaceX made inquiries about his citizenship status and ultimately failed to hire him for the position because he is not a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, in violation of 8 U.S.C. §§ 1324b(a)(1) and (a)(6).
Apparently, that's not all SpaceX has been up to. I mean, how dare they hire someone who isn't a citizen or a lawful permanent resident when they hold classified contracts with the government?
Justice Department investigating Elon Musk's SpaceX following complaint of hiring discrimination
And the complaint?
Wait the DOJ is investigating them because they didn't hire an illegal alien?
They been sitting on this for a while waiting on the new administration haven't they?
There is a third option on the I-9 form they are going on about in the complaint which is "Legal Alien Authorized to Work" and they are asking about the documentation of his/her identification. Basically, SpaceX is telling them to get bent over asking for his ID.
Regardless, it very well should be the company's choice on who they hire. Something I would hope SpaceX's lawyers would point to in court.
If I dont provide the right documentation and dont get hired it's on me. But if an illegal alien doesnt provide the right documentation it's on SpaceX? That makes no sense. There is a third option on the I-9 form they are going on about in the complaint which is "Legal Alien Authorized to Work" and they are asking about the documentation of his/her identification. My office has done this with a number of our employees. It can take a good bit of time and lawyer fees.I don't know if they're illegal since the article doesn't say. My guess is an alien authorized to work.
I do know some looking for work like that are looking to get hired on so they can extend their work permit. The company in question has to put through the paperwork for it.
The things that concerns me is the fact the DOJ has an office dedicated to making sure foreign workers get a job...
